It'll just move to Kayo (Foxtel). I think you'll find the TV rights will be astronomical during the next term, bigger than this time around. If Kayo/Foxtel/Murdoch don't get them, Kayo/Foxtel are done in this territory. The AFL will know this and will maximise their deal.

Well the equalization measures suggests that we'll have a logjam in the middle, so i think you need a few more spots to accommodate, 10 in 10 out has a nice symmetry to it.

I have a counter point though. Is rewarding the elite accomplishment of finishing 5th and 6th with a home final enough reward? If you're a team like Geelong or St Kilda, then it means nothing when the game is at the MCG and you're playing an MCG team. At least with a top 10, you're giving 5th and 6th an extra weeks rest, and demoting 7th and 8th to an elimination final round vs 9th and 10th straight after the regular season. You'd probably be fresher for a semi final too against a top 4 team.

I'm comfortable creating three tiers. top 4, 5 & 6 and then 7-10 but only in the event of a 20 team comp.

if every fifth person in Australia subscribed to Kayo that would give a gross revenue for Kayo of $1billion per year.

Present AFL rights are $400M.. NFL $250M and cricket $150M .. per year.

The sums will never add up.

I been outside,  working on the boat trailer... so Hearing the Scott news shortly before working outside,  I hadn't considered the ramifications of the Coaches Merry-go-Rround.

But i reckon discussions would have been held with Scott's manager,  by other clubs,  well before this week.   Probably since the end of the 2018 season  

I reckon the Blues would have been into him for sure.  They need an experienced coach...   and i reckon there would have been a  'price',  for them to consider.    I reckon they've considered,  and accepted.

 

The Saints are in a less desperate,  situation...  and probably could be more creative with their ideas.

I read it that North went to him and gently suggested that they weren't going to see out his contract but they didn't want the circus of a mid-season sacking and would he mind coaching out the season while they lined up their next coach ... and Scott suggested that they go forth and multiply.

Sacked coaches without a flag in their resume tend to have trouble finding new head jobs. (Don't start.) For some reason Voss is being talked about a lot right now. But surely clubs are thinking, he didn't do it at his last club. How sure are we that he's good for another stab at it? Maybe he isn't? Who will risk 3 years of their club's future on a flunked coach?

Carlton will be spewing. I think they had the scheme to let Bolton coach out the season while they sorted out their next coach in peace and quiet and now North have upset the applecart. Bull market for assistant would-be-senior coaches.

the general consensus seems to be that scott has another gig lined up, be it at carltank or the aints

i think he's tactically quite astute, but i'd argue north's list is 'better' than carltank's, and about par with the aints

it's not like his twin, who inherited a champion team - if they hadn't won that premiership in his first year in charge i wonder what would have happened to him, given the puddy tatts' taxpayer advantages and incredible 'star' recruiting

really, cats should've at least made a couple more gf's in his time at the club

and, fwiw, i think the cats are clearly the premiership faves at this point in time

The figures don't lie....

As Kerry Packer once said an Alan Bond only comes along once in a lifetime and there will not be another streaming service that is prepared to lose A$300M a year in Australia alone.

The world has begun to  "spin'  backwards.  in more than one sense.

The West is battling, with the generation of the East...  thanks to greedy Director's in Multinational's boardrooms.

 

Inflation is dying,  unable to sustain any real interest rates...  and people are getting really self-centred, and holding what they've got...  and not caring about young people who are stuck in the rental trap.

 Wages are failing to raise to any sort of sustainable living standard...  and full-time work a thing of the past,  because we sold our Manufacturing sector out... and let the East take it from us.

In short we are the downward slide,  with wages marching in the direction of a world Parity,  on Wealth.  

 

Then,  Manufacturing will come back to Local markets, trading locally.  cutting out the middle men and they importers will shrink... apart from the Spice Trade.  Oh wait,  we can grow most of these as well.

 

So  who has, and who will have,  wealth enough, to pay for Luxury's like Pay TV... and other little nik-naks.?

those numbers are wrong; news corp's contribution is more like:

afl: $1.3bn / 6 years = $220m pa

nrl: $1bn / 5 years = $200m pa

cricket: $800m / 6 years = $133m pa (although this last one is a guesstimate cos i couldn't find actual breakdown of figures

it's not fox sports tier 1 sports that are a drain on foxtel finances
