Considering he hasn't had a chance to even show what he can do in the seniors for us yet I don't know how we are meant to judge him....all I do know is every week Max is going to get smashed by 2 ruckmen and we have another one who could help him out kicking dew off the grass in the VFL

Actually, he has had a chance in JLT and practice games and has been underwhelming - he's also been injured as I understand and therefore not fit enough to justify inclusion

He gets his chance this week presumably at Casey - start knocking the door down Mr Preuss and genuinely earn your spot rather than being gifted games because we simply want to protect Max - there are others arguably more deserving that could perform that function

I have no idea why we picked up Preuss, who wants to be a back up ruckman ?. The Wagners bros. doesn't excite me one bit.  I can't see us beating the Bombers.

I agree. No offence to the fellas but a team with two Wagners in the starting 22 isn’t going anywhere.

The upside is if the above happens, the media blowtorch will be heavily applied, and that’s when we will see a response and maybe get our season up and running.

...and then we'll be accused of tanking deliberately to get the media to apply the blowtorch to get our season up and running.

Then in 2029, the Herald Sun (should it still exist) will have a front page story about the Demons tanking in 2019, which will get our 2029 season up and running...

Is that recent?  I ask only that Daniher is out there and I thought he wasn't training for a while.  Could be wrong.

If it is recent why would Daniher be doing training drills if he isn't playing tonight.  It would make sense to have the selected forwards train their drills...

Not entirely sure tbh. Ripped it off BF. I’m hoping it’s from this week.

About the same as our match day efficiency

We must be tanking again.

I love how quickly all the air has gone out of our tyres, from premiership favs to wooden spoon chance: only at Melbourne!

Situation normal. Just like the Daniher years. Even numbered years we were princes; odd numbered years we were paupers.

Hot and windy conditions.  Should be a cracking night for footy if the wind comes off a bit.

off for a few thirsty ales before the game (preload at normal prices) as the weather suggests, then off to the ‘G

no excuses, Mr Goodwin?  Lets see....

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
