How do you know they didn’t do that on purpose?

It put MFC and its supporters offside making us even more fed up with the circus than we were.

Looked more a deliberate tactic to drive price down to me.

I think it got you fed up Rangey. Wouldn’t have made an ounce of difference at MFC. They knew he was going, at least they all saw he got there safely...

I don't agree with the supporters bit but it is certainly a possible stage by Freo.

Hard core stuff...

Here's the bit that gets me:

Freo (apparently) had told Jesse's management that they would do the deal, involving their pick 6.  They then proceed to trade that out so that deal cannot get done.  WTF?

They then have a raft of picks, none of which would be enough to get the May deal done.  Their only hope is to get a high pick for Neale.  They baulk at this trade, and are saying they will not let him go.  They therefore cannot get the pick they know we would take to get it all done.  WTF??

We seem to have a positive relationship with Jesse, and have no need to accept a low ball offer.  Freo look like they are trying to be the Arthur Daley of the trading world.  Want us to offload our 2 first rounder valued player for chump change.  WTF??

Peter Bell-end and his team are confusing at best, deranged for certain.  Essentially lying to all sides and short dealing everyone they can.  If they had have taken a mature approach to all of this, they would have lost a midfielder (they have a few of those) and would get back a premium, marquee, 10 year power forward.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it.  There is no value to anyone behaving like this.

Spot on, and add to this:

They pull out of the trade, then rumours circulate that Jesse is damaged goods. No S#!@ Sherlock, losing a parent at that age, especially when you have a close knit family, will "damage" a person. (Speaking from person experience) Also if Jesse is the different cat, introverted bloke that people say. Well I'm sure his going to feel right at home at Freo now!! Bunch of morons.

There’s a reason we are not fighting tooth and nail to keep him. Quite the opposite in fact. The club is indeed fed up of the annual Jesse Hogan Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Freo know this and are exploiting it to the hilt.

You think they’d do that to a vulnerable guy like Hogan... really?! A guy they have supposedly coveted for years... they’d hang him out to dry like that... to “spook” MFC and it’s fans... pppffftttttt

So you really believe JH being videoed in Freo would have any effect on the MFC recruitment team.  What a laugh.   Looks more like some supporters are too easily spooked.

Nice try but not enough for the Crows to play along.

There is nothing to exploit. The deal is on the table

If it doesn’t get done. We keep our forward

Yet we didn’t take pick 11 for him..

AFL trade wrap today says talks are progressing between Freemantle and GWS for Lobb and suggested the following swaps could be on the cards.

GWS give Lobb and Pick 14

Freo give Pick 11 and Pick 23

If that happens then I can see a trade happening for Hogan quickly with Melbourne receiving 5 and 14. We will possibly have to even out with some later pick swaps for Freo to be happy. Guess it's all dependent on Freo trading Neale and learning to not be a d!ck. So probably won't happen actually.

There's no question that Wagon Wheels are the king of biscuits.

But the fact that Oreos made it on to the list at all shows that the author has no idea about anything, least of all biscuits, and is likely a negotiator for Fremantle.

I repeat. I do not believe it has anything to do with MFC fans. We have absolutely no control over this decision. If the club are going to do it, they're well enough run not to bow to fan pressure.

As for Fremantle, given their behaviour across week 1 of the trade period, I'd absolutely believe they would 'do that to a vulnerable guy'.

We're dealing with a bunch of amateurs here. Who knows?

Exactly. If the club was hellbent on getting rid of a damaged player the MFC would have accepted pick 11

it didn’t happen.

Are the undoubted king of biscuits, the veritable Arnotts Venetian, well placed upon this list, perchance?

So if they are amateurs and do pointless things, does that increase the likleyhood it would affect our team?  Of course not. Unless you think we are amateurs too.

No, but if we were as desperate as a couple of posters here say we are, we would have snapped it up and thrown in some steak knives.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
