Bugg had plenty of chances to make it back after the punch.

Kicking was unreliable
Decision making was slow
Lacked a yard of speed or agility to really be a good pressure forward

And he never ever turned and looked to his left. 

I was a little surprised we never used him as a wing tagger like we did in 2016, he was very handy that year for us. But there's far better midfielders out there, and as a half forward ANB, Melksham and Spargo bring much more, yet alone looking for really talented forwards.

    Fraction surprised with this. Carlton would bend over backwards for someone that is able to kick four goals in an AFL game like Bugg did against Norf this season.

    Really tried hard to rehabilitate himself after that brain fade. Didn’t happen, but good on him for trying. Just a bit deficient in the requisite skills at the end of the day. All the best for the future.

    You don’t keep a player on the list who hasn’t played all season just to attempt to trade them to one club (posters suggesting Carlton) for a pick that would be around the 90’s. Thanks Buggy for your service, all the best for the future.

    Terrible kick and decision making skills, but was at times kind of handy. I think he tried hard, and truly sought redemption for the Mills hit, but the FD clearly has confidence in our list, and believes we can free up room to make it elite. Bugg seemed to try, I wish him all the best.

    I'll always remember it fondly as I will all the finger pointing , hand wringing and whining that followed it.

    Basher Houli did exactly the same thing ,as did Andrew Naff but everyone turned on Bugg like he was a criminal.

    Yeah disappointing we didn’t waste our time trading him for pick 70. 

    He can still join another club. Why should the club be a petty [censored] about it?

    He paid the price for being a terribly average footballer. If Oliver hit that punch he’d still be getting a game. Rest assured.

    It didn't end well, but he did bring a much-needed edge and aggression that some of our other players have since refined and built on (and maybe learned from what happened to him).

    I always thought Bugg's best football was when he was being a pain in the backside tagging opposition midfielders. Once he was moved forward he seemed to lose his edge. If he could have spend his down time learning to kick properly, the Mills incident would have been forgotten. There is no place in the forward line of an AFL side for players who can't kick simple goals on a regular basis.

      Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

    • CASEY: Werribee

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
