Can still remember the day! I was on an RDO. I was browsing Demonland and Paul Roos wasn’t the coach. Went and had a shower, came out, jumped back on to Demonland, and Paul Roos was the coach.

I haven’t showered since. Saving it for Grand Final day.

Seriously though, how fitting is it that the anniversary is so close to our final? Almost exactly 5 years after the journey began. We all hoped it would be the beginning of something great, but I think many of us are still struggling to comprehend that it is actually happening.

I was wonder what the stench was. Did we change servers for nothing?

An amazing turnaround really.  From basket case to finals in just 5 years.

Many have had a hand in this but Roos' delivered the midfield he promised by recruiting Brayshaw, Oliver, Salem, Harmes, Tyson and Petracca.  He also turned Gawn into an AA ruckman and Jones into a better leader and team player.  That midfield will carry us for a long time to come.

He also did the heavy lifting and made the tough calls on many players in particular two captains.

For that and everything else.  Thank you :roos:.  Love it that you are now a Demon supporter!

Edit:  And he delivered a successful succession by selecting Goodwin as our coach!

This is something that get's a bit forgotten when talking about our rebuild. Sure teams have been at the bottom of the ladder and gotten back to finals in that time. But we were terrible.

I remember that day too, I was banned for calling carro... well it was deemed insulting, I thought truthful ?

Thank you Paul for coming over and helping our great club.

You will always hold a special place in my heart, knowing your heart beats true for the red and the blue:wub:

Ah yes, the famous Nasher shower that turned it all around. It was in fact you and your questionable personal hygiene which saved this club!

There's basket cases and there's basket cases. We were coming from a very long way back. It was an amazing appointment at the time and it is an amazing appointment now. He started the ball rolling.

Thanks Roosey!

Possibly the first ever example of a successful 5-year plan.

Without Roosy god knows where this club would be right now. Thank you Maestro!

Happy Roos-ev Day!

Wrestling fans will get that joke.

Thanks Roosy.

Another of my suggestions, (Roos to coach us),  which came to fruition, a season or 2, later.

No complaining about kids in school,,, and uprooting them, hey?   better they complete, before moving.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
