Lions trying to lure star Docker to the Gabba

BRISBANE is trying to lure Fremantle star Lachie Neale to the Gabba.

AFL.com.au understands there is genuine interest between both parties and that Neale has raised the idea with the Dockers.

He was knocked back at the first attempt.

The Lions are trying desperately to bolster a midfield that relies heavily on Dayne Beams and Dayne Zorko and are prepared to part with their first-round pick in this year's NAB AFL Draft (currently No.4) to do so.

Neale has a year to run on his contract and will be a restricted free agent at the end of 2019.

Gun. Wanted him a few years ago. Now, we already have Oliver and Brayshaw that win the ball in a similar fashion. We need diversity in our midfield and he doesn't offer it.

Quality player but i think Pick 4 is a bit much for Brisbane to give up. He wouldn't be in the top 15 mids in the comp.

Freo won’t win a game without him.

Wow some people place so much value on picks - If I was Brissy i’d do this in a heartbeat! Pick 4 could easily be a busy and he’s a ready made A-grader (perhaps not A+). He’ll be an older head they will need when they are ready to challenge.

If Tom  Mitchell was traded for Pick 14 I don't see how Neale is worth pick 4 (not withstanding Neale is contracted; will be free agent next year). I would be surprised if Freo traded him as I agree he is a top player, maybe im a tight arse!

Same here, I’d do the deal in an instant if I was Brisbane. Considering the Suns gave away pick 2 for Weller this to me would be a no brainer.

I’d be trying hard to hold him to his contract if I was Freo though. The guy is a serious player.

Tbf I thought this was an absolute joke of a deal at the time haha, was driving me insane listening to the ‘experts’ saying “yeah that seems about right doesn’t it” when he was such a sure thing. I suppose it’s also how much you trust your recruiters - we know what Taylor can do with a pick 4 (although I suppose everyone trusts in the moment). Maybe our pre-Taylor drafting glory years have affected my opinion slightly but I just feel a proven top 5 list player is always better than going to the lottery - I’d trade Neale in for pick 1 (would be doing everything I could if I was Carlton to get a player of similar quality to Neale for their selection).

Great player but no chance we would be in for him.  We don't have the picks to even get close to satisfy what Freo would want if they decide they need to move him on before his contract is up.

That's why he made the AA40 this year, eh???

He has had a good year but I would still have these guys ahead of him:

Bontempelli
Conigilio
Cripps
Crouch
Dangerfield
Fyfe
Gaff
Higgins
Kelly
Macrae
Martin
Merrett
Mitchell
Oliver
Parker
Pendlebury
Sloane
Treloar
Ward

Freos list is in worse shape than Brisbanes. I would be surprised if Freo moved him on. Pick 4 is tempting, but they really need to hold on to their better players unless they plan to bottom out. Can't see Ross Lyon bottoming out for a rebuild.

I probably would too but I was replying to your previous post that's all. You could probably add Rayner to that list who is going to be a star.

I'm a big fan of what Brisbane are doing, lost a few close ones this year and are not as bad as many reckon. St.Kilda is the one, rotten. And dare I say it, I think Geelong is going to be up ship creek in a couple of years.

Yep, totally agree. Bris have built a great list. Geelong are in massive strife come 2020. Just not enough A grade kids down at the cattery

If Hogan were to leave I feel the pick 4 from this trade would be involved.

Hogan will stay he just has to learn to be more than a flat track bully.

It's pick 5 Brisbane's pick due to Lynch leaving.

If we can't get Gaff I'd be after Neale good little player. Don't know what we would give for him though.

disaster for Freo.  half way through a rebuild to lose your second best player who has 7 years left in him.  why does he want to leave I wonder??  a very deliberate move that likely was engineered already with brisbane unofficially

Freo have good youngsters under 21yo and Fyfe.  that is it.   they will have pain next year

Brisbane on the other hand are building a gun midfield and will press for finals next year imo

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
