Shocking deliberate against the Giants

I’m still laughing my head off, came off the outside of his shin for crying out loud. A minute later Shiel’s kick was more deliberate and nothing.

If you choose to soccer it off the ground then pay the price if it goes wayward. Why should umpire have to guess the intention of the player.

Nah mate, that decision was horrific, I don’t know why you wouldn’t agree.

Because the rule is quite literally 'deliberate out of bounds'. It has to be the intention of the player to get the ball out of bounds.

Too often a miskick is adjudged deliberate.

"it was horrific' isn't reasoning. Here's my expansion. Umpire cannot see the face of the player to guess if he deliberately kicked it to the boundary or not, all he can see is a player hacked it towards the boundary. Why do we want the umpire to have to look if it was an accident? Do you want him to ask the player? It's different to a long bomb that BOUNCES to the left away from its original path.

It scraped off the side of his shin, if he isn’t sure and can’t see it (which was the case obviously) then he can’t and shouldn’t adjudicate deliberate. It was a terrible decision.

Maybe it's just me and what I want to see. I don't want to see unskillful hacks rewarded with the benefit of the doubt. Player made a choice to not pick it up, should wear the consequences of where it goes.

All good mate. I can understand your theory if he’d flushed it and it went out, but it just came off the side of his shin, not even at an angle consistent with the direction he intended. Also, not sure there’s anything in the rules about hacks and soccer kicks? Tigers have this as part of their game plan. Anyway, good discussion, let’s hope GWS get bruised and battered here ?

It being a slow saturday and not wanting to have too much football on my mind, I went and saw a daft movie.

As I was going in I had a little chuckle and a raised eyebrow of hope at the quarter time scores with Freo ahead of Geelong.

By the time I came out, Freo had done about as well as the "charming bromancey nerd trope" minor characters did against the megashark.

There are moments you should just look away.

So don’t rate the movie? Was going to watch it tomorrow

It delivers what it promises and has a fun time doing it. I'm not regretting seeing it even though 'fright' movies aren't my usual thing.

Most importantly, it definitely worked for holding my attention and keeping my mind off footy!

Maybe the Freo players were watching it too? Their minds definitely weren't on football for the same period.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
