So out of that side go Lever, Hunt, Pedersen, Maynard and Wagner.  At the moment we have added Brayshaw, Frost, Spargo, JKH and Tom McDonald, depending on how selection goes this week.  Obviously Lever is a big loss, but Brayshaw, Tom Mac and Spargo have made us a better side, while Frost has been pretty good since coming in as well.  I think we're a stronger side than the one we fielded in Round 1.

On the flip side, they've added Dangerfield to their side and it's being place at GMHBA Stadium, so we'll need to be at our very best to walk away with the 4 points.

Sounds good mate, thanks!

Does anyone else think the narrower ground will suit us?  We seem to able to defend the narrower Etihad (128.8m) much better than the MCG (141m).  GMHBA stadium is much narrower again (115m) so might suit our style?

Just a thought.

It still amazes me that 12m (6m either wing) would make so much difference to how a side plays, personally I think it's a cop out between Etihad and the MCG and think it's all in the head, combined with a bunch of fair weather footballers. A win v Geelong may sway me, should be nice and windy on the weekend.

It seems to be a real thing though.  Eagles used to dominate Subiaco with their "Weagles Web", but were picked apart at the MCG, particularly by the Hawks with their amazing foot skills.  Now they are playing on their new home ground with similar dimensions to the MCG and are 2-0 at the 'G this year (albeit a small sample size).  Are they a better side now?  Is it a coincidence?

Windy. Should suit our bombing. It's like a WW2 London or Dresden campaign. Somebody check the ancestry of these players. Too many RAF pilots and not enough RAAF Spitfires and Wirraways.

Every player should have to go to sleep all week to the hypnotic tones of Sean Cosgrove "lower your eyes, lower your eyes. Just kick it in." Happy Gilmore style. Just tap it in. Taaaap it in.

I'll be there.  Didn't buy our tickets though (had them given to us), but when we did look at buying them, they were about $50 each and not many left.

If you do get along, be careful.  Their supporters are great when things are going their way, but if we get on top of them, they do have the tendency of getting fairly agressive.

Thanks for the tip mate. Yeah I havn't been for years and recall them being a bit aggressive. But If I can survive  White Hart Lane as an Arsenal fan I should be able to negotiate a few feral cats fans. Hopefully I can find a couple of reasonably priced tix.

Once, just once, I would like to give Geelong a gold old-fashioned belting. Since I was a kid, they have consistently belted us every few years, starting with opening round 1996, 98, from 2007-2011 (including that infamous performance...), and most recently in Roos' last game.

We should have beaten them the last two times, if not for poor kicking, injuries, and poor defensive accountability.

I genuinely believe Geelong is on the way down, to cushion the fall is three of the game's best midfielders, including arguably one of the best players of all time.

Make no mistake though, with us on the rise and them firmly being a mid-table side, there has been no better time in the past decade to dish them a belting than now. How awesome would it be to just smash them by 10 goals on their turf? Hasn't happened in Geelong for a while. Would love to be the team to do it! I just really want to smash these overrated jerks, and at the same time shut the doubters up.

This is the game we separate ourselves from the run-withs, and join the contenders group.

Hey Daniel, don't suppose you were standing down the city end on Saturday night?

No mate, didn't make it in the end. Probably a good result.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
