Please.  The Wiz is my favourite Demon of all time, but he was nowhere near as consistent as Rioli.

Compare the pair;

Rioli: 189 games, 15.1disp ave, 1.5goals, 4.6tackles. 275 goals total

Wiz: 249 games, 11.5disp ave, 1.94goals, 1.6tackles, 483 goals total

If you want to use the "goals per game" stat in your argument, why not look at Milne.

you also need to factor in if rioli played another 60 games. his figures would drop off some (as they have in his last 30 games)

wiz's figures post mfc certainly dropped off and his last couple of years weren't much chop

rerun stats for just the wiz's first 189 games

DC, if you are going to play those games, then do we go back to when Rioli wasn't being hampered by knee and hamstring injuries?

Mentioning Premiership medals wont win me over when it’s a team sport. Tom Boyd has one and came close to a Norm Smith Medal.

i only suggested you compare 189 games vs 189 games given the difference in retirement ages

i'm not knocking cyril, he was a star, but i reckon the wiz was too and would like to compare them as i suggested

Sometimes spuds luck into a premiership medal, I’m with you I think Cyril is a tad overrated, very good player no doubt But being pumped up in the media like he was the greatest ever

Just a quick look, Wiz's first 180 games saw his goal average go down to 1.75 per game.

His time at Freo wasn't as drastic as you speak of.  His 2007 season was poor (only played 8 games, but still managed 19 goals), but he came back to play 20 games in 2008.

Averaged 1.95 goals per game in his first 180 games.

From 1995-2004 he played exactly 180 games and kicked 351 goals.

so..............almost identical to his whole career.....1.95 vs 1.94

could have sworn he dropped off noticeably after mfc at freo

His last two seasons he dropped off to 1.5 goals per game average (1.15 in his last season).

Great.

Another player I won't have to worry about next time we play Hawthorn.

Looking forward to Roughead and Burgoyne joining him.

I agree, flashy, media hype.

Jeff Garlett averages more goals per game than Cyril.

Garlett: 172 games, 11.2disp ave, 1.8goals, 3.5tackles. 303 goals total

Rioli: 189 games, 15.1disp ave, 1.5goals, 4.6tackles. 275 goals total

Rioli did play in a champion team, 4 flags, won a North Smith? 3 x AA?

And so begs the question?? WHY IS JEFFY LANGUISHING IN THE MAGOOS

FCS GOODY GET HIM IN!!!

Maybe his best is behind him, or like Cyril he has off field issues.

No I don't believe that, still a vital and good player! Must be in this week!

You don't believe he has off field issues? You might need to start believing.

While he could be picked on previous performances, it wouldn't be on current form.

Very talented player in a great and powerful side. But if he played in a weak side I doubt if he would have reached the heights he did and would be quickly forgotten.

Stats, stats. stats....mean little really. I just used to like to watch him play, a bit like Flash when when others got the ball, first instinct is to look to see where Rioli was, because his closing speed was so good. It a shame that Bruce Mac dribbled over him so consistently because it turned me off him a bit. But for pure indigenous magic, he will be remembered as one of the best.

Footnote: I also saw the goal that Richmond's Rioli kicked on the weekend....great to watch!

Apologies DC, Ethan's sums were correct.

When it's all said and done, we are splitting hairs over around .25 goals per game. Yep, that's 1 goal more every 4 games (if my maths is right this time!).

I know this is not a MFC related thing but what a pity to lose a player like that.

When you look at what he has achieved : 4 Premierships, 1 Norm Smith and 3 All Australians, you have got to feel the game is poorer for such a player to leave at a relatively young age.

He has changed the role of the small forward in modern football with his Lower Possession, High impact, Team things and Tackling (actual and perceived.

In my opinion he is one of the games greats.  Well done Cyril  ( at least we have the highlights to be viewed)

I reckon Flash was the first to transform the role of the small dangerous forward but Rioli took it to another level. If you cross cloned Flash and the Wiz you probably get Cyril. Forward and defensive brilliance in spades.

Bloody Burgoyne will be the first to 500 games at this rate.

Not much between flash and Cyril stat wise over there careers, only real difference is 4 premiership medals and a norm smith

Of course one can never know, but, how good would Cyril have been had he played at MFC under Bailey and Neeld, vs how good would Wiz or Aaron Daley have been playing in that Hawthorn team under Clarkson??

Would Bruce be swooning over him then?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
