Essendon VFL v Casey Demons - VFL Round 13

Featured Replies

Casey are ferocious and smashing Essendon at the coal face. They just need to lower their eyes going inside 50. Sound familiar??

Tim Smith too good for this level.

B Grade champion, like many on our list

I have now managed to get it (just) working.

Any clues re radio as I will be on the move a bit later.

Every senior player should be shown the vision of Keilty lowering his eyes before he delivered inside 50. That is what is missing in our senior side.

Quarter Time: Casey 3.2.20 to Essendon 0.2.2

Goals Hutchins Scott Stretch

Disposals C Wagner 11 Smith 10 Baker Kennedy Harris 9

Spargo is senior emergency and J.Wagner is out.

T.Smith BOG just in front of C.Wagner.

Not a bad start. Liking Stretch and Wagners game.

Billy Stretch has two goals and once again is playing well.

Also he hits stoppages at pace. Something we haven't seen from him at afl level. I think he will make it at afl level as a role player.

Just curious - does dad Steve get to junior's games?

Kielty and Baker are worth persisting with IMO. Kielty only one in the whole side to lower his eyes and hit targets and you can tell how Baker moves he could be a good player in time, don’t know much about him though.

Half Time and Casey lead by 18 points - 6.3.39 to 3.3.21

Goals Stretch 2 Garlett Hutchins King Scott

Disposals Baker C Wagner 19 T Smith Stretch 14

Not a great 2nd quarter.

C.Wagner BOG, Vince and Baker playing well.

Baker with 19 possessions at the half.

Has Jason Taylor aced the draft?  All our draftees are looking great.

I can't wait to see Oskar gut running down the wing at the 'G.

I have really liked the look of Corey Wagner this year. Played purely as a small forward at North. Shows a bit of toe and uses it quite well. Knows how to find it. His lack of size may count against him at the top level.

Watched most of the 2nd quarter on the TV. The Aerial Bombing obsession is just dum-dum footy. How's a bloke like Garlett to get a glimpse of the ball when this rubbish is persisted with?

Interesting how a mark to Pedersen which wasn't paid  turned the tide Essendon's way. Pedersen's was much more of a  mark than the one paid to King.

That's footy, I suppose.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
