Topic posted on bigfooty, who are our best 5 players of all time? Interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this, without much thinking (seems to be my life story) here are my guesses:

Ron Barassi

Percy Beames

Ivor Warne-Smith

Rober Flower

Bob Johnson.

I thought the first four were obvious choices but i had problems with the last spot, it was basically a toss up between Johnson, Mueller and Don Cordner.

Who have I forgotten?

This is a great topic but difficult for a majority of the posters on board to comment on since they may not have the longevity of Jarka.

Considering that how about we open it up to people who can nominate the best 5 MFC players they have seen in their time. Might be worthwhile indicating what you consider your time beforehand.

In my case I would say I really started following footy properly around 1991 at the age of 10. That being said my best 5, in no particular order would be.

1. Garry Lyon

2. David Neitz

3. Jim Stynes

4. David Shwarz

5. Todd Viney

Close but no cigar: Cameron Bruce, Adem Yze, Travis Johnstone, Stephen Tingay, Allen Jakovich, Brett Lovett, Glen Lovett, Sean Wight & Paul Hopgood.

Really a tough thing to do, its a real shame but I think this top 5 of the past 16 years would get smashed to smithereens by the top 5 of probably 13 other clubs throughout the same period. Very sad.

P.S. Hoppy was a joke, just checking if your paying attention.

Best 5 since i really have been watching would be from around 1999 onwards at around 10 years of age

1: David Neitz

2: Todd Viney

3: Adem Yze

4: David Schwarz

5: Stephen Tingay

I never really saw the best of Lyon, Stynes or Schwarz but I still loved the OX.

Close to this list would be Johnstone, White, Bruce, Woewodin and McLean. But i get the feeling I've missed a few people

Well, I'm not that old, just in my mid thirties (I guess that would be old for some of you guys). I based my all-time best 5 on discussions with 'older' supporters and history books I've read, for example Percy Beames got BOG in three seperate premiership wins, not bad hey.

Anyway, the best that I'ver personally seen was/is:

Robert Flower

David Schwartz

Jimmy Stynes

Allen Jakovich

Jeff Farmer

Some of the above didn't have long careers with us, ie Jako and Farmer but in my opinion they were the best.

Special mention to Rod Owen, that guy could do anything with a footy, pity about the injuries and the off field issues.

RDB

Brian Dixon

Jack Mueller

Ivor Warne-Smith

Don Cordner and his brothers

I may be out of line here, but i saw Brian Dixon and Flower play.

Robert Flower was a seriously better and more skilful playetr than Dixon.

Barassi refusing to play keith greig on Flower tells its own story the esteem he was held in .

Watching seriously since 1965 , my best , in order :

1- Robert Flower ( a wizard when all around were hobbits )

2- David Schwartz ( would have been # 1 if not cruelly injured )

3- Gary Lyon ( all class and almost unbeatable )

4- Brett Lovett ( never beaten )

5- Jim Stynes ( dominated games consistently , like no other big man )

* honorable mentions to Glenn Lovett , Andrew Obst , and Stephen Tingay

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
