Huge game today considering the circumstances. We have at least 1 guaranteed change to the Senior team and the best defender today might very well get the go ahead. There is also some injury cloud surrounding a couple of others so the boys who want to play on the Queen's birthday need to perform.

Are we on Casey Radio (or any other radio)?

That probably depends largely on if they can keep their truck out of the bog...!  LOL

Drunkn if you had your 1st, 2nd, 3rd as the likely Lever replacement, who would you have.

With Casey about to take the field, this question will surely be better answered in a  few hours HB.

Frost, Keilty, Petty in that order, but today will see who really wants to put their hand up for it.

No Joel Smith?

I’ve been a bit surprised about Smith’s name being thrown up. Firstly Joel is still trying to get back to His best footy after some nasty injuries but mostly that Joel is a rebounding half back, not a key defender.

I’d think having only 1 tall defender in won’t be able to stack up against any decent forward line, you need a minimum 2 Key Talls down back.

The 3 I named are all tall defenders.

Frost had an excellent game against Port. If he continues in that mode today he is probably the favourite for inclusion.

The Pedersen, Weideman. Smith dynamic continues.

What's the wind like today at Willy.

Another warm day here in Athens ...lots of mosquitoes ...

Hope Frost, Petty and Kielty have good games today. big opportunity awakens.

Absolutely beautiful day down here in Williamstown, only a slight breeze at the moment

This is the Joel Smith named as an emergency. I would argue he is the one who plays closest to the way Lever plays. Particularly against the pies will be surprised if it’s any of the others.

Beller of a day at Willy! Sunshine and no wind a rare combination for this ground. Seems the locals are having trouble with the pa no club songs as the teams run out.

Oskar Baker just copped a spray from Rawlings who opened the coaches box window and yelled at him to swap opponents. The lack of discernible atmosphere here meant Baker turned and heard the full effect of the message!

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
