'Best' is super ambiguous, 'best team' more so - but I'm afraid that by just about whichever way you want to swing it, our great white hope in Jesse Hogan wouldn't be in the team. Can you say 'great white hope' anymore? I presume not.

Jay Viney fairly lucky.

Your task is relatively easy! For me, I have another forty years which includes Barassi, Flower and half of our Premiership teams (6 No.)! I am not even going to start! (Reactive this post in October when we have won another Premiership.)

Would love to see your team,  CBD.

Id like to know who the absolute guns were from our premiershp era in your eyes, and which players of the modern area would get a gig.

Add 3 emergencies to your team too so we can see who just misses out.

Most posters here would probably have teams from the same time frame as Werridees team (80s-early 90s onwards), so you oldies need to start talking up our premiership heroes!!

My earliest I can recall is probably 1998 when I was 7 aswell as watching highlights here & there from years before. So mine is around 98 to current.

Werridee's obsession with creating teams is terrific.

I'm looking forward to these teams in the near future:

- Best team of players whose last names begin before the letter M.

- Best team of players that never played a game of football for the MFC.

- Best team of players that wore a number above #45.

Get to it, Werridee.  We're counting on you.

I hate it when we put players who are just starting out in our so-called best sides and I was not a huge Ingo fan - he played five solid seasons as a defensive stopper, but was a shocking kick and contributed very little to offence.

So I've cheated by sending Lyon to CHB, he played there quite a bit for Vics and was swung to defence a few times to save games for Northey. Same with Yze to half-back, although his best year was 2000 when he played as a defender.

Whelan lucky as Matthew Febel was also worthy in this timeframe. Stretcher, Yater and Grinter's best years were pre-89, hence overlooked.

Two more good years and I'll happily add in all of your current day players.

How could no one have Jetta in their list? And Rigoni over Leoncelli?

Nice touch  brings back memories  with many class acts.   That group would certainly win a Premiership.

I contemplated it but he's form from 2014-2016 was good & he's gone to another level the last 2 years. He's previous 5 years were rubbish hence why he was delisted. He is one of my favorite players but he's another year or 2 off all time if he continues he's current form

Wow, I’d forgotten Jetta was delisted, makes his story even more incredible to the player he’s become. Close to the best small back in the league in the last two years

Agree with you, CBDees, there are heaps of players who would compete easily with the newbie teams, if not surpass many of those in the past thirty years. I could list them, but for heaven's sake, it would also be unnecessary as some of the newer teams listed are just fantastic. What I see as surprising is that Neitz is at full fwd so often; he was better and best at CHB. How could you separate Ingerson and Sean Wight and Icke at CHB anyway? This problem arises out of the need to consider 'the best', and exists all over the ground. The only two that I could think of as being ahead of the pack for their position were Flower on the wing and the Ox at CHFwd.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
