Hard to change a winning team but the fourth game in 18 days is a concern. Also 6v7day break. Two or three fresh Casey players might have been worth a thought.

That was Hunt’s best game this year and he gets dropped, while ANB to me is just plain terrible.

He offers nothing but pressure, with shocking disposal, no contest ed marking, no great pace and an inability to make ground for us.

I am stunned.

Unbelievable mate. Whats the point of highest KMs run and pressure acts when you just cough it up and destroy the chain towards goal. He's clearly out of confidence, cannot believe the persistence. Thankfully Salem in is an improvement but thought Hunt was OK last two weeks.

Good solid selection on the basis of the last couple of games and who is available.

Looking at our list is interesting at the moment.

We have the 22 that have been selected this week and the 4 emergencies, Wagner, Garlett, Hunt and Tim Smith. Any of those 4 could step into the team and fill a role without weakening the team to a great extent. If you add to that Viney about to become available and Bugg, Pedersen, Stretch and Frost playing solid Casey footy we have a good depth of ready players to use in any round. There is also Kent that can more than fill a role when fit.

Of the rest of the list, we have Baker, king, Petty, Maynard, J. Smith, Keilty and Filipovic developing.

VDB, JKH, Balic, Johnstone and Mc Kenna we have not really sighted through injury and form to be able to make a judgement.

Gold Coast team looks absolutely terrible.  Whos their best player?  May or Swallow guess.

Their ins this week are much better than their outs, wouldn't get too complacent just yet.

Very surprised as most with ANB getting another gig. From what I saw, his “pressure acts” are performed after he fumbles and turns the pill over to his opponent.

He really has battled this year and I really thought a spell in the twos would have helped him regain his confidence. He’s looking a shadow of his late last season self. I have faith in him but he really needs a freshen up imo

Hunt hasn’t offered much more but at least he’s improved over the last two games and offers a massive point of difference in that he offers pace.

Happy they are sticking with the Weed. Just have to keep him playing now

Called the Hunt omission.

Good decision, hes given us literally nothing.  Running fast does not count.

Running fast hasn’t saved Hunt, but running far seems to have helped ANB. And he is I believe high in the “pressure acts” numbers.

ANB must be doing what is asked of him but maybe Hunt hasn’t.

Still have some concerns re Salem’s thumb effecting his ability to lay crunching tackles.  If at the last minute he wasn’t right I wonder which of the emergencies will take the trip?

ANB is the best 2 way runner in the league right now. I guess that is why he keeps getting selected, because he can outrun everyone else in the league.

So what is anb’s role? Hard to see from overseas. Does he take the dasher of the back flank. Does he guard space? He has not been as effictive this year, but running serious km during game. Hard to see in the telly where is he running to

What’s the opposite of running over the coach’s dog??  Whatever it is, ANB has done it.

Listen to Gawn on RSN, he is playing a particular role within the team.

That's why people are frustrated, doesn't matter how far you run if you just butcher it. Has inspired me to go back over the tapes now to watch closely what he's doing.

Mind boggles.

Tells you where the comp is at right at this moment.

Gawn said on radio he is the high half forward and works up and down the ground to provide support and pressure at both ends.

He is covering more km’s than any other player.

Still early in the season I would be worried if these professional athletes couldn’t handle it.

Smoke and mirrors...headless chook running half the time.

The metric is plainly wrong...

Every team has a role players. If the players and coaches are happy with his output I’m sure he is not overly concerned about your comments on demonland.

Hunt butchers the ball more than anyone.

okay detectives and stat people

what is saving ANB

Is it pressure acts or is it it something more difficult to discover like plugging some invisible hole.

Perhaps a thread of its own... "what does the Nibbler Do?"

Im sure he's not either.

So is his role a Stats collector. ? I'm intrigued. For a lot of effort..... and it's there....im f'd if i can see his current value.

Fair enough ....my view's irrelevant to the club.

( I'll lose sleep........ )

I agree he is not flying but as I said I think he is playing his role from what the coaches And players are saying.

If his role is to run 17kms a game, then you can’t replace him with Salem, Hunt or Garlett as they can’t do the same.

I think he is playing a similar role to Townsend at Richmond.

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
