AFL Players don't rate any Demons for a breakout year!!

I'm reading a 'breakout year' to be one which goes beyond having 'potential' and beyond 'announcing oneself' to 'arriving'.

Really expected Petracca to be up there!!

Also no Hogan and no Oliver (maybe 2017 was his breakout year).  I am rather shocked to be honest.  In a way it shows other AFL players don't really rate our rising stars - are the negative labels of recent years (bruise free, mentally weak) still strong in the minds of AFL players and all our players are tarnished with that brush?

Clearly to us Dee supporters we have a heap of starts in the making.  But others in the AFL aren't seeing it (forget the dumb commentators).

Still some respect to be earned...

Hope our boys show their peers what they are made of!!!

We haven’t achieved anything yet, we had a great chance last year, but blew the last 2 rounds...

This is possibly a case of 'ignoring the obvious' because of their own disturbed outlooks.

SWYL - you trot out that line on just about every thread!

I agree with it as a team/club but this topic is about individual players so I don't see the comment as being so relevant in this thread.

Take another look at the list -  there are two players from the Lions.  The Lions haven't achieved anything yet!  It doesn't stop AFL players seeing Hipwood and Harris in the 'breakout category'.

Lots of non-successful teams have star players and players on the verge of breaking out.  I believe we do to even even if those outside the demons cannot see it.

Good, it means we’re still flying under the radar. Long may they continue to underestimate us.

We are seen as a mentally weak club by outside Fans & Players alike.

Until we actually do something and not just show potential year after year nothing within this club will be rated.

If the club had made the finals last year and had a crack during September, i would predict the above list would be quite different.

It all depends on artitude

Well those players can go kiss my ....

I thought it was a list of 50 and they’ll drip feed it by fives per day for next couple of weeks... so chill.

It's the players Top 50 players that will be coming out, not 50 breakout players.

Having said that, I'm in the 'just chill' category with this one.  Just because players aren't thought of at the beginning of the season doesn't mean they can't go out there and prove them wrong.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices this.

Over this rubbish now. I've had enough of fluffy talk and just want the games to start.

Yep, I want to see that look on every players face from every other Club,  "What the hell just happened?" The next step is where everyone hates us (not in an Essendrug way) give 'em hell!!

Stop that, some of them would like that and then you would just feel dirty.

Stay under the radar Dee's. Loving the love from other teams (NOT). Hopefully we have the last laugh end of August moving into September.

ANB and Salem in 2018 to follow Oliver’s breakout from 2017!

How many more sleeps ‘til Rd1???

For all the flack the club had copped this summer (rightly in some regards) locking away the likes of Hannan and Tracc without too much media forelnowledge is encouraging. We’re now a watertight organisation and will present a challenge for anyone, anywhere. I can’t wait to see us hand out plenty of the thrashings that we endured in 2012-2014.

No ones that sick

I'd argue that with Oliver the horse has already bolted. Could also say that after a couple of seasons of 40-goals plus it would take a Coleman for Hogan to have a 'break out' year! Lever in same category as Hogan - already in the top group in the position, so can't really break out.

Still, we do have a large number of quality young players that could've been considered. The more I think about it the more I'm surprised no Demons got a mention.

Hunt - a bit more fitness and consistent involvement over games is all it would take to make him a highly visible top player.

Petracca - we all know the potential for brutal and creative dominance there.

Salem - it is all about getting the body right, then we could see a major lift

Brayshaw - it is all about getting the body right, then we could see a major lift

Throw in Nibbler, Hannan and even the new improved Oscar McDonald, just for fun.

Ahhhhh, it is defintiely March now! :D

And here inlays the problem...of sorts. The suggested category..i.e 'player'

Last time i looked it takes a team, a cohesive team , a consistent team to get anywhere.

I couldn't care at all about players having ' breakout' seasons.... I'm more about a Team having a breakout season, our team.

Let others concern themselves about individuals as I just want to see the team play a good and competitive brand of footy , week in - week out and the rest should follow.

We can tell ourselves who's ramping things up at the Dees. Others might worry more about their own teams  etc.

I'm pretty sure that over the last 2 seasons we have displayed heaps of potential.

Yes last years finish was a bust. Yes we were weak in 3 significant games but there were also huge injury issues. But for most of the season we had some great wins ( Crows, Dogs, Eagles) that proved we were tough as well.

Let them underestimate us at their own expense.

This is clearly a H20shed year for the club

I predict a third year of potential and improvement with enough wins to play finals.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
