Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Favourite Demon Moments of 2006

Thanks to robbo24 over at ology for the idea...

While we were denied the flag we so richly deserved last year, we did achieve a number of things, and as fans we were given a number of fantastic days at the footy, and a number of individual moments that stayed with us for days, weeks, or even for the rest of our football-following lives.

What were those moments?

For me, it's gotta be Brock's first goal and celebration in the Saints final. That, along with his last quarter, second goal and the fact that he was the engine-room of that win... for many reasons I'm sure we'll remember that day as the first confirmed sign that we had a new champion player recruited and raised at MFC, who's going nowhere.

Davey's delivery to Neitz was a pretty good one too, what with him having such a bad day, and being thrashed by Baker.

Neitz's shot from fifty against the Saints earlier in the year?

His two bags of 8, vs Saints and Roos?

Byron's bump on that scum, Crowley?

Bruce's winning goal vs the swans?

Davey's two soccer goals?

Carroll's big hit on Gehrig?

Robbo's mark over Bowden?

I got more.

As far as matches go it's the Saints final, followed by the thrashing of the pies, then round 17 against the dogs: a 98 point turnaround since round 2.

Matches against the Hawks and Freo in rounds 7 and 8 were great days too, along with the second half of the roos match in round 20.

Over to you...

Agreed.

Best football moment of 2006.

I could watch the bit where he intercepted the kick, then received the ball back, 100 times.

Confirmed his potential 'star status' as you say.

Also, Neita's big milestones, the thrashing of Collingwood, and Bate's first goal.

Lowest moment of 2006, was our second loss to Carlton, confirming we haven't really changed at all. Disgraceful! :(

Carrolls 'hit' on gherig was actually a tackle not a hit..big difference. My highlight was our great win over geelong, Dunn played his first game i think and played well and Bate played a good game. Brock was fantastic though.

The way Byron Pickett (fairly) terrorized some of his opponents - especially in the firs half of the season before he injured his hamstring. After so many years of seeing our players as the targets of aggression it was good to see someone in the red and blue giving back the medicine. Worked a treat against Hawthorn which has used thuggish tactics since the year dot. And didn't they squeal?

In 2006 we didn't have as many high moments as 2005 and I will always remember the match v Western Bulldogs in RD21 and v Geelong in RD20 as 2 of our greatest achievements, but in 2006 Neitz's milestones were all extreme high points this year. But McLean eclipsed all that in the final against the Saints as individual performances go.

Team moments would be the final against the Saints, then the demolition of Collingwood, then the comeback v the Roos and Yze's 250th against the Dogs

Says who? Nobody specifies what a hit is, and who ever said I thought it was only a bump anyway? I've watched that passage of play at least 50 times now (not kidding), I know what he did. Besides, hit can be used in numerous ways. Ever kicked a long ball out of defence and had a team-mate yell "Yeeeeah good hit, Freak!" If this site is anything to go by, you've certainly had the experience.

I'd say it's a hit if the tackle is a devestating one, that causes injury and turns the game.

neitz killing the saints twice

neitz breaking the records

mcleans season!

beating collingwood again (never tire of that)

Yeah I agree with all that.

Brockie vs the Saints was sensational - I watched it a hundred times that week.

I also saw a positive in Brock nearly being suspended and being on all the news bulletins that week as everyone I know finally said "Ohh, is that the guy you're always harping on about?"

I'm sure prior to that they all thought I'd dreamt him up!!

Chopper + Gehrig = GOLD, champagne comedy!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
