DC, my point is that the 1st team chooses its strip, it is the obligation of subsequent teams not to clash with existing teams.

If a Tasmanian team enters next season and it chooses to play in Grey, Orange and Mint,  then forever against GWS is should wear its clash guernsey say Choc Mint.

Essendon FC can wear powder white - they know what that looks like

Carlton FC can wear [censored] brown - they give them to me

haha, carlscum definitely brown in honour of all those brown paper bags, but dorks have a mortgage on sewerage colours

essendope can go to tassie or the vfl, problem solved

tassie should be easy as no club has claimed green yet

did you see the awful clash jumper the cowboys wore in the nrl prelim? it looked like dirty washing.

VFL was founded in 1896 so all the clubs in the vfl in 1896 were foundation clubs

I am still yet to see a Clash between the Adelaide home Jumper and the Richmond Home Jumper.

Are you Colour Blind Gill??

Slobbo's writing in the Hun today is just pathetic, he is so deep in the AFL pocket.

I don't always agree with KB, but on his one he is right 100%

There is no clash, both teams should wear their Proper Club Jumpers

So if we stick with facts, we were first everyone else followed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Australian_rules_football_clubs_by_date_of_establishment

Pretty sure we played those formation years as The Invincible Whites, so how far back does our red and blue tradition go? Not as far back as the Navy Blues or The Same Olds from Essendon in the black and red.

We also wore royal blue for a dozen years, does that discount the navy blue years? Do we start again from 1987?

Fact is it's all irrelevant. All that matters is the reality these days is clubs need clash jumpers and it is up to us to design one that is not abominable to look at and pays respect to our history.

that was pre vfl, gonzo

it all depends on context, eh?

btw 'invincible whites' was not official, merely a tag in a newspaper

We played in what was the VFA between 1877 and 1896. Also back in the beginnings in 1858, all teams wore white, as footy was a game to keep cricketers fit in winter, and teams were differentiated by the colour of their caps (a la cricket). It seems we adopted red socks and became the Redlegs in the 1870s. I can't find a definitive statement, but I suspect we were wearing red and blue by 1877 and possibly earlier.

Anyway, when we make the grand final, part of me says we should wear only the traditional jumper, while another part says the red-backed strip is an acceptable alternative, and the rest of me says wearing the white away strip would be a travesty, a farce, and likely to be insisted upon by the AFL ...

Maybe not, but he is certainly a power hungry control addict.

Looks like the players were quite proud of their clash jumper - enough to wear it to their Family Day Celebrations at Punt Road Oval

That should quieten KB!

They hadn't had time to change!...and wanted to keep the smell of success!

I agree, a reverse strip or even the pale blue if the 70s/80s would be prefer to the Bintang. Unfortunately the AFL told us some years ago that we can't have a red clash strip though now Essendon has one. Probably worth going back to them again as we all know they change with the wind.

We should never, ever be seen in the royal blue of the 70s and 80s. It was symbolic of a shocking era in our history and a weak administration that allowed us to compromise our colours. I can cope with white ahead of that!

Haven't heard one single sook from a Richmond supporter about having to wear the clash jumper yet. I even tried to goad a couple of them from work in to a rant and got doughnuts. Funny how a flag can make these matters seem trivial. If anything for them, it has added meaning to that jumper rather than taking any gloss off the flag.

I don't think the Richmond clash jumper is that bad as it's their colours but inverted.

If it were us, behind all the happiness and joy, I'd be holding back the dry-reach and subsequent vomit.

Sounds like a fair deal which I would accept in a heartbeat
