Dyson.png

A talented midfielder who was repeatedly overlooked by AFL clubs despite strong performances in the VFA, Dyson started at South Blackburn and played Reserves for both Fitzroy and Carlton before joining Mornington.

Unable to kickstart a VFL career he joined Oakleigh and was voted as Best on Ground for the VFA in a 1990 state representative match against the ACT League. His impressive performances for Oakleigh saw him win a chance as a fill-in player for Essendon in a practice match against Melbourne and his performance against the Demons encouraged them to Melbourne draft him.

With the Swans allowed to pick up two uncontracted players as part of league concessions they offered Dyson a three year contract in early 1996 and he played in that season's losing Grand Final side.

What are your favourite memories of Kevin Dyson?

Posted (edited)

I would have sworn we played him as a sweeper off half back with his booming kick, with Brett Lovett performing a similar role on the opposite flank.. But 25 goals in 70 games suggests he must have spent more time midfield than I remember.

I remember little Kev as a young kid with a footy in his hands...

He will have a soft spot for the Tiges at the mo, his dad was a huge fan (big Tiger household) but of course was a bigger Kevin fan so followed him wherever he played.

I remember my girlfriend of the time being besotted with him. I asked what he had that I didn't. She has almost finished the list.

We are no longer together.

Work with Kevin's brother, who's very much a mad keen Tiger fan.

Apparently the family is split between supporting Tiges and Dees after Kevin's career at Melbourne (no Sydney allegiances).

My favourite memory is courtesy of Big Neale Balme. I was sitting in from of the old open coach's box in the MCC for a night match and KD seemed flat-footed when the opposition won a contested ball on our HFF in front of Neale and me. "Get into it Dyson!" boomed Neale. ?

KD's early games filled me with optimistic anticipation but he never quite delivered. I was still keen on him after he moved north.

Massive quads and a huge  kick .Played out of the centre.

He and Rod Keogh are two i thought we would get a lot more service from.

They both looked like ten year players at the start.

I'd forgotten the name Rod Keogh. Liked him.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
