Melbourne team: round 21

  • B: Michael Hibberd, Oscar McDonald, Neville Jetta
  • HB: Bernie Vince, Cam Pedersen, Jayden Hunt
  • C: Nathan Jones, Clayton Oliver, Jordan Lewis
  • HF: Christian Petracca, Tom McDonald, Jake Melksham
  • F: Jeff Garlett, Mitch Hannan, Alex Neal-Bullen
  • Foll: Max Gawn, Dom Tyson, Jack Viney
  • I/C (from): Jack Watts, Angus Brayshaw, Billy Stretch, Sam Weideman, Josh Wagner, James Harmes, Corey Maynard
  • In: Brayshaw, Stretch, Hannan, Weideman, Wagner
  • Out: Salem, Frost

Not surprised to see Salem out as he was injured last week.  Frost has been struggling.

Our forward line is looking decidedly short unless both Watts and Weideman come in...

Will be interesting to see who gets dropped from the bench.

I have a feeling pedo watts and the weid will all spend time up forward with both McDonald's down back. There's no one super tall for st kilda up forward that we need frost for. He looks tired, they'll give him a break and get ready for Brisbane and the pies. I think it's a smart move if reiwoldt isn't playing.

T mac will stretch them up forward. No need to move him in defense

Hmm does Hibberd take membrey and Omac Bruce? The thought of Hibberd,Jetta and hunt running up the field and having Omac (maybe) the last man in defence is scary ?

MODS - THERE ARE ONCE AGAIN TWO THREADS RUNNING IN PARALLEL.

PLEASE MERGE.

Preferably in the future, leave the speculative one running up until the official team list is announced, and lock the other one until the same time.

Only then can we seperate the speculation from the facts.

They will drop Watts i reckon

Agreed.

Weird that they don't state injury as the reason for dropping Salem, despite looking very sore at one stage last week. Surely he wasn't dropped on form?

Membrey will be too big for Hibberd, i think Pedo would be a better matchup. Watts will need to pull his finger out. Harmes, Wagner and Harmes to miss.

Like that they didn't give Salem the face saving out of listing him as injured.  For David_Neitz_Is_My_Dad, Watts was named on the interchange last week.  Didn't have a visibly noticeable impact....

I reckon he was. One, they would have said injured if he was. Two i reckon he did not go hard enough last week. Which is why i think Watts will be dropped. His second half was better but as leader he simply failed to show the required leadership in regards to attack on the ball in the first half. And i say that as one of his biggest fans.

Watts was definitely improved in the 2H last week, in fact I thought he was better than pedo all game.

Dropping him this week would be a big mistake in my mind.

Hes played some big roles in big games over the last couple of years, I would absolutely back him in to do it again.

How did Pedo secure himself a spot in the 18 after last week? Was very poor last week.

Fully in agreement with the Salem axing. He's ability to win a hard ball or a marking contest has been non existent since his return from injury.

Scratching my head over Frost's omission honestly.. Not likely to request a trade is he?

You could drive a truck through these lines - he's gone pal - Lever is in ;)

Reminds me of when Frawley went forward for 5 months....

He has been poor defensively over the last few weeks, his run from the backline has also dried up, down a bit on form, get his confidence back at Casey this week with a strong game then straight back in hopefully.

Watts will be gone after this game.

I'm suspicious of your motives as poster 64. Six negative posts to start you time on Demonland. Comments sure to raise hackles. We've been to this rodeo before on DL. Do you barrack for the demons?

I agree, he was better than Pedo. Just

If picked i really hope to see him tear it up. I think the idea of playing him in the ruck to give Max a chop out is a really good one. Gets him near the ball and he is better tap ruckman than TMac.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
