Where is it stated he is carrying an injury? or Multiple injuries? I havent seen that. I hope Watts plays and is fantastic. We need him right now, this weekend to help out.

Just being not bad would put him in the top 20% of his best games. But if he is injured the club should say.

A poster in the match preview thread noted he has a disc problem and has played injured.

Also"It is understood Watts has been limited by a hand injury, with the 26-year-old spotted with a small cast to protect his hand at training in recent weeks". http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-11/late-mail-live-round-21

And, he had back spasms, ankle problems leading up to the bye.  Then his hamstring went and he was out for 4 weeks.  I would like to think he was fully fit when he came back it looks like the selectors became desperate and brought him back underdone.

With Hogan missing most of the year and Watts not firing/injured and Weid doing nothing in his 3 games this year I put it back on all those who said our club isnt missing another forward option.

Hell yes we are and it came back to bite us. Full credit to TMac but the club was either caught short with Weids development or just gambled on Watts and Hogan doing it all and not being injured which was stupid.

Note to club get us another forward so we can kick some goals.

Tmac, garlett and Trac up frwd this weekend. Weid not the answer.

Captain, perhaps you can enlighten us without giving away sources etc.

Absolute joke.

Makes a nice easy whipping boy, every time the coaching staff want to look like they're taking a stand. They pick and choose which players they take a hard line on 'team rules' with and it shows.

Has McCartney's fingerprints all over it, there's a reason why he was moved on from the Bulldogs and they've never looked back.

Yeah, don't know that he's carrying all the heat, 2 others got dropped as well.

Gee whiz.. We need forwards, we need mids, we need defenders, we need another backup ruckman..

Thankfully we don't need a coach too

Goody just announced that JW has been dropped

Watts possesses all the answers to his critics. As a player of 150 AFL games experience, he can control all external noise by simply performing to an acceptable level.

It's a really simple thing.

Why is it so hard for posters like Jumbo to understand that? Just think about it for a minute.

Apologists Note:

Goodwin: Jack Watts will play in the VFL this week. He hasn't been playing at the level we or he expects. He understands that #MFCMedia

Just seems selection hasn't got it right this week, can't see us kicking enough goals.

I didnt think we could kick enough goals to beat the Crows in Adelaide either. We kicked 17 goals and won by 41 points. No Hogan and Watts no goals.

We bring the pressure we score...

Let's hope so.

What, because Watts has been omitted?

Goals come from multiple avenues. If we get on top in the midfield and are efficient with our entries we'll have no problem scoring.

Simple.

No, not because Watts has been omitted.

JW is the most scrutinised player in the AFL

Drop, delist, trade....whatever it is....just stop the vitriol and the cruel commentary

Thank you, Mr Football

I think you'll find that most supporters of the club wouldn't delist the guy. That would be silly. And the vitriol and cruel commentary that you allude to is spoken by a small group whom you can ignore.

But the general criticism of his performances in certain games are absolutely warranted and the proof is again in the pudding after another omission. So you have nowhere to hide. And neither does he.

I'm not interested in Watt's past. I'm interested in the now. And right now, he's been incredibly disappointing in his performance.

You, along with others seem unable to accept that.

Watts has himself to blame right now.

Hard to be upset about this. You simply cant carry players who wont put their body on the line in a contest. Statement had to be made now.

Regular season games are not nearly as physical as finals, and we needed to do something urgently. Hopefully the entire team gets this message, and goes in hard starting this weekend. A few stuck tackles wouldnt hurt our cause either.

How he plays in the magoos will say a lot about his headspace and whether it means enough to him, or if footy is just a paid hobby.

We will miss his kicking, but the physical stuff he just wasnt being serious about.

Bring it Jack.

Jack has been shown this season that nothing is going to be gifted to him like it has been in the past. There is a certain benchmark that needs to be hit and near enough is not going to be good enough. Let's hope Jack has a ripping game for Casey and is back in no time.

Don't think it's"body on the line" stuff, otherwise Jordan Lewis would've been dropped for his disgraceful effort against North in the last qtr.

It's contested work, flying for marks and gut running. Not happening enough and hope he comes back better than ever.

Wow, strategic thinking at it's best.

Win the ball in the middle, hit targets and kick more goals...

Mate, you have to tell the FD about this... pure genius!

Jeez he must be pretty injured if he's kitting up for Casey on the weekend.

Yeh.

That's how footy works funnily enough. It seems the poster I was quoting believed that we'd have serious trouble kicking a winning score without Jack in the forwardline.

Jack has dropped off again in his willingness to compete.   Salem has been poor in this area as well.

Many other important players are also out of form and tired but these are the 2 that look to me to be off in the non  negotiables.

Yeah it's another thread, but it is what it is.

yeah

I didn't think Salem should be dropped. Am I a Salem apologist?

I think Goodwin had had a terrible fortnight, perhaps we could drop him for Justin Plapp for a week.

All those who disagree with me are Goodwin apologists.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
