MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 18

Biggest fear for me is Charlie Dixon getting hold of us.  Not too fussed about Gray, Nev will wear him like a glove when he goes forward.  Hopefully Viney runs though Wingard at the opening bounce.  Good player but man I can't stand him.

Dixon is a beast and could give our inexperienced tall defenders some really big headaches.  I wouldn't be surprised to see T-Mac head back early on tomorrow.

Are you saying Trengove goes back because of his height? If so, I'm not sure that at 185cm, he is going to quite cut the mustard in the height department.

I think he means the Trengove of the Jackson variety.  197cm.

Hopefully some others take a bundle of marks as well, cos we're currently the 17th ranked marking team in the AFL. It's starting to become very obvious how much we get outmarked, and I think oppo teams are using their talls more astutely to exploit it.

A good point. That stat is a worry but one mitigating factor is we have had Hoges, Gawn and Watts out for chunks of the season - probably our three highest marking players.  Not only has that meant fewer marks for us, the players who would have otherwise played directly on them are freed up to mark more often.

Ah yes, of course.

Agree. A terrific mark and a big worry for us.

I'd start T Mac in defence tomorrow on Dixon, with the inclusion of Watts.

O Mac and Frost can take Westhoff and Trengove.

Best defender on best forward. I don't want things to get out of control like they did V's North when Ben Brown was running amok while T Mac was getting cold up the other end.

Goal sneak ready to go for Demons

Goody: "It's a big day for our footy club from an indigenous perspective. It's the first time we'll wear our indigenous jumper at the MCG, so for Jeff to be a part of that is just terrific."

Trengrove is the biggest in for eons. I hope he rips it up with 10 marks, 15 kicks, 10 handballs, 7 tackles and 3 goals and never looks back. Kicks the winning goal in this years GF.

Watts at full forward. Viney with 40 touches in the middle.

Dees by 10 goals of which Jesse kicks 6 at CHF.

Just remember Jack T came back last year ...played one reasonable game and then went downhill a little  before being dropped not to return.

As much as we might like to think it ... he is not the messiah

He's not even a naughty boy....

I for one am happy for Jack, though I really did think that the game had passed him by.

I do  look forward to the commentators clarifying Jackson and Jack Trengove for 120minutes +

I hope our man Jack gets 40+ possessions then, just to hear them tie their tongues in knots ...

Hope they all play well so it's not a case of Jacks off.

Of the three of them, Watts is the jumping Jack ... :D

I asked Nev yesterday said the decision was left with Jeffy, obviously and thankfully he wants to play

True, but he is a bit hit and miss. Hopefully it'll be one of his quiet days tomorrow.

I'm a bit concerned about Ryder too. Max is still finding his groove and Ryder's athleticism around the ground might cause a few headaches. Defenders will have to be super conscious of him around the top of and inside their forward 50.

Our forward line looks very dangerous. I think whoever gets on top in the middle wins this one.

I think we will win by about 26 points

hogan to find some form and kick 3

trengove 20 plus touches

Jayden hunt best on ground with a stupid amount of meters gained

Last year was about getting JT back in the game, this year is about bridging the 2 year gap, the game has changed, he hasn't been gifted a game, he has earned it.

And nobody thinks he is the messiah, just play his role

Pretty confident of a win tomorrow... Wouldn't be suprised if we do it comfortably

I reckon there's been just a couple where we "do it comfortably" this decade...

I'm expecting it to be excrutiating to the last second. as always.

And a 70m torpedo ....

I've been to five VFL games this year and he has not exactly stood out at any of them. To expect him to suddenly do better at AFL level is wishful thinking at its best.

He has got a game after just about the whole list has been tried in the seniors.

Good luck to him but I'm not expecting much. He is likely the first to be dropped when Vince and Jones return. Love Jack but that is the reality of modern day football.

Can't wait for tomorrow, just great to have a strong team back on the field, give it two more weeks add Jones & Vince back in, and we will be ready to rock by September!

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
