MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 18

Featured Replies

Great ins, get jones back and that's a brilliant team, I really really hope trenners does well he deserves it

Cannot understand the Trengrove selection but good luck to him.

The others are very important ins who together with an improving Hogan and Gawn should give us a chance against Port. Perhaps more importantly they should all be match fit for North and the run home.

Whats the feeling on garlett?

Has he been named as hes definitely playing, or are they giving him all the time he needs in case he can make it back for the game?

Mystery at this stage?

Viney will be playing in pain, Tyson, Salem and Watts are coming off injury and Trengove hasn't played for 12 months.

I'm happy with the inclusions but we are facing an in-form Port Adelaide who have almost no injuries.

If he's named he is playing.

Psychologists  all agree the best way to beat grief is by kicking multiple goals for the MFC.

He had to get one right as he's been wrong on his last half dozen.

That goes for me too.

Ugh!  Two of my least favourite three

Nicholls hates us.

Trengove selection makes sense. Why bring in a guy, that went through all he has in the past few years with confidence issues stemming from early captaincy and injuries, when half the side (and most of the midfield) are out of the team? Basically throwing him to the wolfs again with his career on the line. He'd have the limelight completely on him, with expectations that he'd have to carry the midfield in his first game back.

I've got no doubt Goodwin's wanted him in the side the past few weeks. Goodwin noted "he's been in terrific form". I believe the past few weeks Goodwin's had to throw the lines in about Trengove being close and having to "work on things" as an excuse to avoid the real reason for Trengove's absence during the past few weeks of injuries to the team.

This week in fact is the best possible time for Trengove to come in. We have our A grade midfielders back, which takes away the spotlight and reliance on Jack to HAVE to have a good game. This takes so much pressure off of him. Now he comes in knowing he doesn't have to be the star or the leader, but just play his role and be part of the group.

No doubt he'll still be playing for a new contract, but this way the circumstances are tailored in his favour.

Absolutely the right call by Goodwin and co.

Looks like I will be putting a few coins in the metaphorical swear jar .

I hate Nicholls- he's a trounced up affront to humanity.

When the revolution comes, and it will,I will have a special slow conflagration for this man.

Yep...  me too  :-/

I cant remember leaving a Matthew Nicholls game happy that it has been officiated well.  Even for neutral games not involving our lot.

The most consistently inconsistent umpire going around.

Made a h2h bet last night ?

Wouldn't be surprised if we're favourites by tomorrow.

Can we sneak Jurrah into the forward pocket.

how good would we be with the Jurrahcane up and firing now.

Liam Jurrahs demise was a sad moment and talent unfulfilled.

From the sounds of it, Viney has been playing in pain since last year. I think hell be fine. The others havent been out for that long like Gawn and Hoges. Jack is the unknown.

Port Adelaide injury list as of Tuesday.

Ryder - Test.

Broadbent - Test.

As of today.

Nil, assuming Ryder plays.

This is the strongest 22 we've had on the park since round 1 I reckon.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
