$4 million over 4 years seems way too high for him. Didn't Lewis give a speech earlier in the year that the players should be willing to play for less money to get more, best 22 players in, in order to win a flag?

If the MFC have offered Lever that much, doesn't that pretty much throw all of that out the window? Thats gonna p*** off a lot of the playing group

Generally agree, but $1M per season isn't what it use to be and won't be in 3 seasons time at the end of his contract.  Lever waited until the new EBA was out for a good reason.

MFC could have bot Stringer and Watts for the price of Lever

It will be much more than that if he is forces to go into the draft.

He'll put a massive price on his head for years 1 and 2 and then get paid under's for years 3 and 4 when he reaches the MFC

Woo ahh big fella... we don't want to hear that especially with your bro at the club.. are they shitty?! Lever will be immense for us, worth it.

you contradict your own post D167

Lewis gives a speech saying existing players should accept less, in order to attract more "best 22" players from other clubs, then you wonder if the existing players will be p****ed off, because of the arrival of a new "best 22" player from another club, on good coin?

Rethink, and re-post

You're missing the point dude.

There are a number of players currently on the list who are better then Lever on a helluva of a lot of less money, that's what would create animosity within the group.

Don't get me wrong all, Lever would be a great catch for Melbourne no doubt, and it'd be awesome to see him dominate in our backline.

Agreed.  Hadn't heard $mill mentioned.  Wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide would throw that around though.  Hell hath no fury as a Crow scorned.

Thats not the point at all.

Lewis tells players to accept LESS, in order to attract outside players who will be best 22

Then you suggest players will be ANGRY, if said new best 22 player takes the money Lewis has been telling them to sacrifice.

makes Zero sense at all.

We have no defender who is better than Lever at what he does. None. So why the concern?

Coz I can tell you for a fact that the players would definitely be pretty angry about.

I heard from the 7 news piece it was 750k a year for 4 years. In 4 years time i bet you another increase in the cap will happen. Also considering some clubs have multiple players on close to 1mil a year, where is all our money?

And I have no doubt at all that is the case. It's always a huge concern about out of joint noses when attracting new talent.

But it flies in the face of what Lewis was saying, and that's my point.

Too many seduced by Lever.

He is good....but no so good that you risk animosity

Players have to earn the coin, also remember Nathan Jones, Bernie Vince and Lewis are all close to the end, huge cap room available if guys like Oliver and Petracca earn it. It's also one of those things in which you hope they buy in to the product, not the coin. I could see guys like Petracca and Oliver wanting big bucks and being tempted by different clubs. I don't see guys like Hunt or Gawn demanding big money, because i think they're really invested in the club.

That's what i heard also, and that sounds reasonable to me.

Adelaide are obviously training to paint it as a financial move to save their own skin, so don't be surprised if they throw some numbers out there.

Has everybody seen the interview Kane Cornes did? Shows you how out of touch the crows are.

Who's on heaps less D that thinks they have more value?

Lever is being paid on form and potential to drive us to the next step, hopefully the playing group can give it time to see how it works out and not get their noses out of joint.

Yeah, lets stick with our plan of the past 53 years.  That will work!

People are speculating the amount anyway.  The bigger the amount, the bigger the reaction. Don't get sucked in.

All Melbourne media and 7 news reporting 4x 750k But Adelaide 7 news say 4x 1mil I would say Adelaide media pumping it up to get a better deal or to tell the Adelaide members why they wouldn’t match it

I'd be angry if the club was incompetent and not thinking about the future of the playing group with this deal. However, since Jackson has been incharge i think the club has become rather stable.

Thats so unprofessional, wow.

Hope we get him for nothing in the draft.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
