Sad thing is none of what i saw was a suprise.

The handballs to team mates under pressure.

The inability to choose the best option - and quickly.

The kicking for goal.

Giving opposition way too much space coming up forward from the midfield.

Direct turnovers going coast to coast.

Its the same things ad nauseam from loses weve already had. We had it all on the line and thats what we served up.

Pathetic.

I agree Pedersen would have been a better option today, but a) we obviously still have half an eye on next year and b) this game was lost in the middle of the park

I disagree . I think we were let down by not enough solid contributors. That comes down to good role players like Pedersen being left out for inexperienced youth.

I agree, and I also agree with PD in terms of getting carried away with VFL form, but I do feel slightly sorry for Nibbler.  He is played as a pure midfielder for Casey, and when he gets promoted he spends the majority of the time forward.  It's not easy to make that transition.

Hogan obviously needs to work on his kicking, but he was terrific in the wet today. 

Watts was hopeless and missed a sitter, yet flogs want to complain about Hogan's 14 mark performance.

I admit it. Today, I had hopes - vain, foolish hopes - that I'd have a pleasant and rewarding day at the football. They were dashed. Oh my, how they were dashed. The glorious prospect of success became the bitterest of ashes in my mouth. The day was a ruin, to join the many, many ruins I've had in following this football club. Despair replaced delight, cheers became groans, despondency was a weight on my shoulders. Every slight hope, every moment of clever play was countered by hesitancy, misthought and instances that could only be called both slapdash and slipshod. To be honest, I gnashed my teeth more than once, and I was prepared to make offerings to the football gods if only we'd have a third quarter turnaround.

Alas, it was not to be. Quarter three tantalised but did not deliver. I beat my chest with frustration and nearly rent my garments.

By the end of the game, the cheers of the Carlton faithful were knives in my ears. I could bear it no longer. The siren was my release and I trudged, bereft, to Jolimont station, crushed and despairing. I'm beaten, I tell you, worn down and a shadow of the supporter I was only a few weeks ago.

I consoled myself, though, with the knowledge that here on Demonland I'd be among those who share my pain. It helps, a little.

How often do you hear after a win "We had 22 solid contributors today"? If you don't have 22 blokes who can pull their weight in modern footy, you need a Carey or an Ablett to make up the difference.

And how many times has hogan missed goals that were both a) ridiculously easy and b) goals that were vital for us. Yes he can take a grab. But his decision making and set shots are down right deplorable.

I think Roos was overruled at the selection match committee, again! 

Earlier this year (can't remember which game) he flagged a 3-4 changes to bring in fresh players and we made only one change (then we lost).  At the time I posted that I thought the selection committee had won out.  This week he flagged that if Garlett wasn't fit Salem would play...not even an emergency.  Roos is very astute - he doesn't flag team changes if he doesn't have a good reason for wanting the change.  There is a limit to how much control Roos can exercise.  I think Goodwin is making selection decisions with a view to 2017; 2016 is of no interest to him.  I firmly believe Roos would have selected to win.

Roos would have tightened up our defence today.  Maybe Goodwin is experimenting with 'attacking football' and they have yet to find the balance between the Roos' defence first' and the Goodwin 'attack at all costs' approach.

Hope they sort that out, fast!!  We snookered ourselves today.

Hogan needs to fix his kicking, no doubt about it.  But to suggest he has an 'attitude' problem is ridiculous and disrespectful.  19 touches and 14 marks in horrid conditions is a damn good day out.  It's tainted, of course, with his kicking for goal, but that can be fixed.

And if I see posters claiming our culture hasn't changed and so forth, then you need to take a good, hard look at yourself.  You know it has changed.  We need to eliminate these types of losses, but I suspect this will motivate the boys for a big pre-season and a crack at finals in 2017.

Just noticed it was 20 free kicks to 5 today.  I hate blaming something like this, but to suggest we only earned a total of 5 free kicks in a game of footy is ludicrous.

They were first to the ball all day and the majority of free kicks they got, I thought were there. Most of them came of the back of heinous errors by MFC players.

Oh and realistically, we might have had more uncontested possessions (due to overuse), but they absolutely spanked us in the centre clearances. Is their dominance some kind of record? We were never in it. Cripps lead the ground for clearances by quite away and then Gibbs was second.

The more I think about it, the more I think Jones played one of the worst games from a captain I can recall. In a big game, with everything to play for. He fumbled, overused, put team mates under pressure and when we needed him to kick the captain's goal, he couldn't get the job done.

His play exemplified our entire team. This is a guy who has played in finals and is the captain of the club, yet he seemed to choke in a way that would belie his experience.

Once again we have also shown we don't handle sides that apply strong tackling pressure.  Our instant handballing to anything red n blue, is very predictable and allows for cherry picking, in fact it encourages high tackle counts against us
