We are stiff to be 10th on the ladder at 3-2 with a nice percentage

yep I gleefully opened the AFL app to check out ladder position and was shocked to see we are 10th with a 3 - 2 record

Just want to put it out there.

Viney is on 9 Brownlow votes.

3 against the Giants, 3 against the Pies and 3 against the Tigers. He may have even snuck one against the Roos. Not bad after 5 rounds.

My Carlton supporting mate made a good point about Rance's snipe. I heard on SEN and the ABC that they thought he might get a week for it. What Rance did was incredibly dangerous. I know there are a lot of cheap shots or 'making them earn it' clips over the ears at points, but what he did was almost akin to a King hit. Dog. Anyway, my mate said he said get 4-5 weeks for it. I don't think he will miss that many.

We are so lucky to have Viney.  What an example for the whole team to follow. Maybe the whole world.

He's a human dustbuster on speed, just sucks the ball up somehow whenever it's in his area.  Bless Jack Viney.

Lid's officially off...

I spent the last quarter in a clothes store that had free wifi... Not shopping but listening to SEN and swearing and cheering. People thought I was a freak. Was totally worth it

Cannot wait to watch the replay.

Absolutely! and it's very important imo that the AFL makes a stand against this.

My own regret about this is that we've made it awfully hard for Richmond to finish 9th.

Yer maybe last!!  the way Carlton and to a lesser extent Freo are travelling!

I still think the booing of Goodes wasn't racially motivated, no one this year has been booed because of their skin colour. Very happy to listen to other opinions about this though

I want to like this Twice.

burgoyne, Jetta, Garlett and maybe others do far far more for aboriginal interests than Goodes. Divisiveness serves no one

That [censored] Carey, defending Rance and the frustration, "he gets double teamed and triple teamed every week"

Since when does a defender get triple teamed?

You back on the powder Wayne?

Dear WaynCar,

Um, who were the other one or two Melbourne players in that contest?

I haven't been this up about footy since 2011 when we beat up on the Crows and Dockers.
The difference is now is that we aren't downhill skiers. Besides the Essendon blip, I have been impressed with out ability to get in and continue fighting.
Now there is a new streak that we need to break. The Saints have clowned us for a good 8 years now.  It's time to get that monkey off the back.

We are a pack of absolute c$&ts and I love it!

Thoughts on Brayshaws game?

Struggling! Down on confidence, dare I say it he looks slow! Just wondering if the knee is 100%

I can see Clarry Choo Choo replacing him next week! Depending on the Viney situation re Rance altercation either him or Harmes might make way for Petracca!

No other changes are needed!

He did play a lot of minutes as a deep forward which knocks the disposal count down a little bit, i think he needs to go to casey because we have guys smashing the door down

Well, that was an experience and a half. What a win!

A few observations

Max Gawn played the best first half I've ever seen from a ruckman. He had those go-go gadget arms working superbly.

Dom Tyson is back to his 2014 form.

Provided he isn't suspended, Viney will go close to winning the Brownlow this year. Absolute jet!

Watts continues to surprise. Has 12 majors after five rounds and is leading our goal kicking list.

Speaking of leading goalkickers, tonight was just the second game where Hogan was gone goalless ... and we still kicked 20 goals! Despite the fact he didn't hit the scoreboard, 10+ marks and 17 odd touches is still a solid night up forward.

Wagner and Hunt are guns in the making. Loved watching Hunt take on the opposition and use his dash.

Brayshaw dosen't seem right at the moment. Injury? Fitness? Second year blues? Will still be a dynamite player for us but I think he needs an extended run in the twos.

Kent continues to improve. Starting to put together a break out season.

We play St Kilda next week. Dare we dream of three in a row?

Dean Kent has arrived.. second week in a row hes had a career best for disposals and booted 4 goals the week before that

vs Richmond - 25 disposals, 7 inside 50's 4 goal assists, 1 goal, 4 tackles

I so appreciated Roos saying something about the deliberate out of bounds calls made tonight. As a member & suporter at the ground it was just so frustrating and Roos has officially put it out there for all to see. Thanks Roosy

I just gave him a whack back on Twitter.

Working for Fairfax, he should concentrate more on keeping his job than making crude comments about a bloke who just got smashed in the back of the head.

I might suggest that we boycott Fairfax publications but nobody buys the Age, SMH or Fin Review these days.

Can we buy it just tomorrow, though, for the write-ups about tonight? Pretty please?

Yeh, loved the kick from Wagner to Hunt on the members wing. Fourth gamer to second gamer, The Future is here

I was pretty young so maybe not remembering correctly, but Wagner and Hunt remind me of players like Ingerson and Big Mac in the 90s. Effective, reliable and pretty good kicks of the footy.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
