Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Statistical Improvement?

Well constructed, because it shows up where we have improved. DIsposa lefficiency is an area that needs rating. Also some criteria summarising pressure between the Half forward and half back lines. No pressure there means the defence get HAMMERED (like yesterday)

DE% is not one of my favourite stats. I find it misleading. Teams that overpossess with hands or with short kicks in the backline will have a high DE% but will be ineffectual.

Pressure through the middle is important, not sure what metrics would be ideal to measure that.

Usually UPs Differential will indicate whether one team or the other is providing enough defensive run. We also had 23 more clangers than St Kilda (69-46) which doesn't help...

Let's get this out of the way:

CL I50 UPs CPs Score QW
Rd 1: GWS -6 6 1 -4 2 2
Rd 2: Ess 5 -15 -134 -4 -13 0
Rd 3: NM 17 12 15 32 -5 2
Rd 4: Coll -5 1 17 4 35 3
Rd 5: Rich 3 0 74 11 33 3
Rd 6: StK 12 -2 -33 -10 -39 2

Beaten in UPs and CPs - that usually means just one thing...

And the season:

2016 Differential 4.33 0.40 -12.00 5.80 2.60
2016 Melbourne Ave 39.8 54.7 223.0 150.3 100.8
  CL I50 Ups CPs Score
2015 Differential -3.1 -9.0 -12.0 -0.9 -21.4
2015 Melbourne Ave 37.6 44.5 203.5 135.2 71.5

That uncontested possession stat is quite damning. Against both Essendon and the Saints, the team's flatness and inability to mark players has been abysmal.

Damn it, we should have beaten North.

At least the arguments presented here are factual . They also show that when things work we are getting better.

I can concede your argument rpfc re UP

This is despite having TMac,Pedersen,Watts,Dunn,Lamumba,Jetta,Tyson,Hogan,Vince,Kennedy,Garlett,Brayshaw, Petracca, Wagner,Harmes,Hunt,Frost,Gawn,Viney,Bugg, etc( All average to fair VFL Players) in the side.and having Oliver ANB,MIchie,Trengrove,Grimes,Garland not in the side. A week ago there were copious arguments for presenting a submission to the AFL for a 30 man side because we had so many good players to pick from. A week seems an eternity in football (even without a Tigers or Magpies crisis

I am trying to re-read your post to find the sarcasm a person must require to be naming the players in bold as "average to fair VFL players"

I have gone ultra conservative and only highlighted the borderline "elite AFL players"

You sir, are one cooked unit

Utter domination from start to finish - stifled in the first half, irresistible in the second. Never seen us dominate the I50s count like that since...ever.

Again, rate of improvement is astounding. I am waiting for a smoothing out of the numbers but hoping for a statistical improbability of improvement.

Better efficiency going forward, better forward structures and more games into our young guns and that spells excitement.

A good time to post my version of what rpfc does here - I go back to the end of Neeld/start of Roos and just look at the key stats in differential (margin, clearances and inside 50s).
The washup is that our side right now averages a 12 point win compared to a 56 point loss in Neeld's final year. 11 goal+ turnaround. You can see this is accompanied by a positive trend in basically every stat, every season, for 4 years. What is most crazy for mine is that we said at the start of the year that we would now be focusing on attack. We now are the 4th highest scorers having increased our weekly score by 38 points in one season. That is walking the walk after talking the talk. Also we are getting 13 more inside 50s each week, a giant increase, which IMO is the result of an elite ruck/rover combo plus Oliver and some return to form from Tyson.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
