Toumpas v Wines - Oliver v Parish

He's still contracted for this year and next year as well I believe. So he'll have to be traded.

I hope that after a month or so off in WA he gets back to playing for GWS (via their reserves I imagine), finishes the year and then it will be up to the WA clubs to see what his trade value is.

If he retires or GWS sack him for failure to fulfil his contract then it's going to be like the Mitch Clark situation.

The AFL should invoke a two year rule, will make players think twice.

McCarthy is a spoilt sook.  GWS were right not to trade him.  You can't just pick and choose where you'll work when you're under contract.  He knew what was on offer when he entered the draft.

It might have been different if Freo offered anything half decent.  They didn't enhance prospects of a trade.

You're right 'ProDee' they didn't make a serious offer, not sure what they were thinking.

The club selecting Oliver over Parish very much has my approval.

Weideman and Oliver was my ideal combination prior to the draft so to still get that result with the picks swapped is either a masterstroke or very fortunate.

A list full of talented competitors who love the contest is the future.

Didn't they offer this year's and next year's 1st round picks?

That's more than fair.

A pick in the late teens and another prospective late teen pick...barely first round.

If they were really serious they should have put up a decent player and a pick.

So your answer to my question is yes.

Hard for them to offer better picks than their first rounders. They were never going to give up a star for a player who badly wanted to come home. Much the same as we wouldn't offer one of ours to get Prestia if it comes to it.

The best way to stop stuffing up high draft picks is to stop having high draft picks.

Such a huge call GC made there. It's staggering the media has never really made mention of it.

Absolutely, but Jack Martin is an absolute jet, when he gets a good run at things and is injury free, i think he's going to become an A grader pretty quickly, i think Jesse is already there though

I see nothing in Jack Martin to suggest he'll be the A grader you say. Too skinny and outside that will join the Watts, Toumpas, O Rourke, Scully who were gun juniors but struggle to adapt to the physicality of the game and Martin is as soft as they come.

Yeah, nah.

The thing is, Martin isn't outside at all. He just has the pace to break away.

Yes he is.

Watched some of the GC games last night on Fox and while Martin has the pace he is very soft and a long way to go in terms of physicality. He shirked contests where even the commentators were critical of this side of his game.

Oliver will crush Parish if itis a one on one. Doupas shouldn't should never be mentioned in the same sentence as wines. My do the people who run this wbsite censor your comment "to say". A midfield of Spencer ………….. would give MFC supporters nightmares. These comments were not mentioned on the above topic. I commented on Parish v Oliver yesterday seem to have disappeared. Why do comments get censored when there is no vulgar language used yet people can call other silly, you must be drunk etc? Has anyone else had the same sort of prolems, perhaps the moderators can answer the question.

The media are too thick to even realise how the mini draft worked. They wouldn't even realise GC had access to Hogan if they wanted him instead of Martin.

Hardly.  He's been ok, but 13 touches for the entire game is hardly setting the world alight.  Will struggle to be best 22.

Did you watch the game or just read stats? If you watched the game you would see that his possies had some impact. Good on him I say.

I watched the whole game and his possession definitely did NOT impact the game at all. I am a Toumpas fan but he has completely no hurt factor whatsoever.. most his possessions were dinky little hand passes. He was one of the more senior player and i thought with 12 of their best players out he would stand up but he failed to do so.

He will unfortunately struggle this year.

I watched the game.  He had little impact.

I'm not knocking the bloke personally, but he had little influence on the game.  I wish him well at Port, but he was far from good today.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
