I agree. Pretty easy decision. Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney, Oliver and Salem, are as promising as any young midfield in the game.

That is a relentless, tough and classy midfield.

After this year, I expect Gawn will also be a top 3 ruckman in the league. Whereas Sandilands is on borrowed time.

While I don't disagree at all, I am always conscious of the fact that not that long ago I/we were thinking the same thing about McLean, Sylvia, Moloney, Gysberts, Tapscott, Strauss, Morton... etc  *shudders*

Proof will be in the 5+ years from now pudding.

Thanks JTR, I was starting to get all excited, now I am depressed (figure of speech - not a medical condition)

I think the new group are, to quote Bruce "Special", and our best chance to grab a 13th flag since....... forever.

Back to Oliver...

Some rumors around that Dodoro (Essendon recruiter) thinks he might be the best mid drafted since the Hodge - Ball - Judd era.

No wonder they spat chips when we got him if he rated him that highly.

Very satisfying that we were able to get that draft pick ahead of them with some clever deals.

Remember when majority of people on demonland weren't happy with the fact we traded up to pick 3 to land Oliver who thought he would have fallen to us at a later pick ;)

In Taylor, we trust.

We will know well before 5 yrs. Within 6 months it should be pretty obvious where they sit.

There'll be none of that ragdolling nonsense under the new tackling regime. Parish will be lifted slightly, shaken gently until the ball is dislodged or disposed of and then returned just as gently to the ground.

I still think Parish will be a very good footballer and will follow his career with interest.

I look forward to seeing how both boys turn out in the next few years.

Yes, we used the new rules to our advantage and were ahead of the curve.

That felt strange to type...

There's every chance he'll [Parish] be as big, if not bigger, than Oliver by round 2.

I thought that they would be chastened at least for a few months.

New pharmacist in charge?

I'm sure there's a highly sophisticated and completely undocumented plan in place. Highly unlikely 'Whatever it takes' would be placed on the back burner for too long. The pharmacist's appointment would support that theory.

Apologies for derailing thread. Nuff said (here)

I view Parish as a Marc Murphy style player who will be silky skilled, move well and will be an above average footballer.

I view Oliver as having the potential to be a Dangerfield/Judd type player who turns entire games and does the freakish things.... Hope I'm right!

I too think Parish will be a good player. Interesting that he didn't play last week (from memory) and is not playing this week. He was just OK in their win over the Blues.

Also I checked on the relative sizes - Parish v Oliver. The latter 13 kg heavier and 6cm taller (73 and 181 v 86 and 187). Doubt that Parish will grow 6cm and add 13 or more kg in 3 weeks.

Another interesting observation Oliver is taller than Gary Ablett snr so is Petracca.  I reckon when Oliver stops growing he will be bigger than Dunstall.

I'm excited. Yes I know it is more than height.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
