Why did he nominate Collingwood followed by Carlton if the prior fails...

Are you really that naive

Treloar has nominated Collingwood

GWS are playing hard ball and want more than Collingwood are offering

Carlton has 1st pick in the PSD

A leak suggests Calron are offering more money

Treloar's manager acting in his clients best interests says he is open to this

GWS weigh up the 2

Treloar walks and they get nothing

They take Collingwoods offer and get 2 picks

FFS it isn't that hard to work out, how this is being played out,

Edited by Pennant St Dee

Why is Treloar not our number one target?

He, Wines, Mitchell and Prestia are the best under 23 midfielders in the game, and Treloar wants a return to VIC.

We should be a major player for his services, and he is worth any long term deal.

Who says he's not...

It doesn't mean he wasn't our number one target, who would know...

If he was our number one target it still doesn't mean he has to chose us. The point is we don't know who we've targeted and spoken to, it's not the way we do business anymore and I'm happy with this.

We don't need PJ and the crew to lead the cheer-squad into battle, we just need them to successfully rebuild the club.

Haha naive, who would have known that Carlton has the first pick, or Collingwood #7 & #25!

Maybe if you could string two thoughts together you would realise we have enough to compete with any other rival offer - rather than forfeit the possibility.

We have the money and in a draft offering a key forward (who would join Patton, Cameron, and McCarthy if the Carlton trade came to fruition) or key back with the first two selections, our pick #6 and Howe (who GWS offered a lucrative contract in the closing stages of the 2014 trade period) should be adequate. If not any possible pick obtained from the departure of Toumpas would be sufficient.

We have the resources and we should be at the forefront of any trade battle to acquire his services.

I completely agree with you and as I stated yesterday I'm pleased by the lack of leaks in recent times.

This trade period we need a Treloar, Parker, or Prestia etc. to catalyse our success by contributing to more wins in the short term that would alleviate or reduce the difficulties of recruiting free agents and other OOC players in future years.

Edited by ignition.

Who says he's not...

Voice of reason.

We run a watertight ship. Saints clearly have too many overzealous people high up.

Doesn't mean we're on the attack here. Does mean we could be elsewhere.

I love the way Melbourne are playing their cards.

Every other club is laying their cards down so everyone can see.

Melbourne can just come in and trump the lot.

Just because the Filth is the wealthiest club, they have the same salary cap as anyone else, apart from those north of the border.

I'm getting really sick of clubs like St. Kilda and Carlton getting nominated over us! We're not any worse than they are, in fact this year's ladder would demonstrate we're as good if not better. It just really gets on my nerves when they could flat out reject any interest from us and then go on to be open to a move to Carlton. Or bloody Carlisle nominating St. Kilda! I dunno, good on them...but sometimes I look at it and think really?? We're not THAT bad surely.

Maybe (definitely) I'm just bitter.

How do you know that Carlisle wouldn't have nominated Melbourne, had we had any interest in him?

Players aren't nominating clubs that have no interest in them. Otherwise everyone would say they want to go to Hawthorn.

I feel like a Mitch Clark scenario is unraveling here. The way we are going into this trade period reminds me of being at an auction.. We're just sitting there, letting the other suitors battling it out for the property, then we just come in with a late bid that trumps them all. LETS GO DEES!

Surly GWS are only putting it out there to get a better pick off Collingwood for him.

We all know how hard Collingwood are to trade with.

You're also acting a bit irrational.

We don't want every player that's on the market. We have holes to fill, and we have a tight budget that must be managed.

We also happen to have potentially the best player in the league for the next decade we're trying to lock down on a long-term contract.

WTF who would have known Carton had 1st pick, it's usually decided on ladder position

If you think the club hasn't made any inqs into Treloar you are affording further evidence to your naivety. Or were you expecting the club to send you a personal sms or email on exactly what they are doing behind the scenes

Don't know where you have been for the last two trade periods but we no longer leak info

SHHHH don't let Ignition hear you bringing logic into the scenario

Melksham has as good as nominated us, as has Kennedy. Carlisle isn't exactly Paddy Dangerfield, and not what we need in any case.

The blues have probably offered Treloar similar terms to the Pies - probably even better to get his interest. That's fine, we obviously don't value him that highly so our offer isn't as big, etc. It all comes down to a bidding war; and like any auction the one prepared to pay the highest price wins.

So coming back to Milkshake and Kennedy - they're interested in us because we've put the best offers to them.

The deal to Collingwood is not necessarily a certainty according to GWS

could we steal him ?

What about the following:

Melbourne Give: 2015 and 2016 1st round picks

GWS Give: Treloar, Bugg and 2015 2nd round pick

If St Kilda get both Treloar and Carlisle, then they'll leap frog us next year.

No they won't.

What about the following:

Melbourne Give: 2015 and 2016 1st round picks

GWS Give: Treloar, Bugg and 2015 2nd round pick

They'd want something else thrown in for that.

They're giving two players and a pick for two picks in that scenario.

Bugg would only be worth a 3rd or 4th rounder anyway. Plus Treloar is definitely not worth two first round picks on his own.

What about the following:

Melbourne Give: 2015 and 2016 1st round picks

GWS Give: Treloar, Bugg and 2015 2nd round pick

GWS knocked back Collingwood's offer of 2015 & 2016 1st rounders. Why would they accept ours, and throw in Bugg and a 2nd rounder too?

GWS knocked back Collingwood's offer of 2015 & 2016 1st rounders. Why would they accept ours, and throw in Bugg and a 2nd rounder too?

Cos our picks will likely be earlier both years and Bugg is steak knives in any such deal.

2nd rounder would not be involved, it'd be either/either.

GWS knocked back Collingwood's offer of 2015 & 2016 1st rounders. Why would they accept ours, and throw in Bugg and a 2nd rounder too?

Because our picks are before Collingwoods + we're nicer people!

I don't think Collingwood have actually offered 2 first round picks. I'm fairly sure they offered 1st this year and 2nd next year or something like that.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
