WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

I'm sure a lot won't agree with me, but I expect Melksham to have an impact equal to Vince.

Not a chance. Vince was sublime at Adelaide. He is a footballer's footballer. Melksham is just a limited footballer.

A former pick 4 who hasn't lived up to his potential after 3 years is quite different to a former pick 10 who hasn't lived up to their potential after 6 years.

In no universe are they like-for-like on the trade table except in Dodoro's eyes (and that's exactly the reason you know they aren't like-for-like).

Toumpas 3 years 27 games, Jake Melksham 6 years 114 games.

Melksham played those games for a relatively competitive Essendon team, where as, Toumpas has struggled to get a games for us where we have chose to play players like M Jones and Bail ahead of him.

Look at the facts and they clearly show that Melksham is with more than Toumpas.

Wow..

Might be wrong, but I think Bombers supporters will be up in arms in 18 months time, wondering how they got so little for him & calling for heads.

He has all the attributes for great success.

Really? Vince was viewed by many as a soft front-runner with a deadly kick, often with good reason.

What are Melksham's limitations exactly?

Poor disposal and decision make. Very inconsistent.

I don't agree, but anyway...

Edit: I should clarify - inconsistent maybe, but I don't think Melksham is absolutely a poor decision-maker or has poor skills; quite the opposite.

Consistency can and will be worked on, and I think will improve markedly in our environment.

I also think his work ethic will add to the club culture.

Vince agreed to be traded to Melbourne after being told he wouldn't be offered another contract at adelaide after 2014.

Would love it that you're right Mach!

The salt that would provide for those bomber wounds... would be such fun.

Looking at Milkshakes highlights, he can extract the ball and belt it long which would have Hogan salivating... ;)

Not sure if this has already been posted, but if goodwin thinks he can get the player that Melksham shows in this Video then he may be a very handy acquisition.

never saw a game more in need of clash jumpers

He is slow by pace, foot and by brain. He simply isn't a very good footballer. Its laughable that MFC are trading for him.

Vince agreed to be traded to Melbourne after being told he wouldn't be offered another contract at adelaide after 2014.

That was more due to Adelaide needing to inject young talent into their side - as they had been banned from the draft due to the Tippett saga. Also, they expected Brad Crouch to take Vince's position, that hasn't happened, its not looking like a good trade for Adelaide. Bernie Vince won a B&F in 2009, teams don't just give them out.

Gonna be a few more red than blue faces from this barrage of no confidence if this bloke is a good get (which I think he is)

Thanks for your expert opinion, but I'm going to back mine on this one, which is pretty much the opposite.

Oh, and obviously that of Goodwin & McCartney, et al.

Agreed whole heartedly, don't think the toump will ever play as many games as Melksham

Poor disposal and decision make. Very inconsistent.

So u r saying he will fit in perfectly with the rest of the team then!

Goodo.

Vince won a b&f at the crows, and Melky will be younger when he comes to us. Can't compare the two..

Its laughable the two comparisons with Vince and Melksham. Vince actually had done something noteworthy in his career before coming to us, winning a best and fairest and being in the All Australian nomination. Not only that, he proved he was a noted ball winner aswell.

In his 114 afl career Melksham has averaged 16 disposals and not once in his career has he ever hit the 30 disposal mark. For a midfielder thats played that many games and 24 years old thats a poor effort. He would wanna put in a big pre season this summer pull his finger out because we are currently the laughing stock of the AFL for picking him up on a 4 year deal work 400k a year..

Goody and Mcartney need to nail this one.

I agree the comparisons between Vince and Melksham are off, but I can understand the notion that Melksham could be as important to us playing his role as Vince is playing his. Their outputs will be different, because positionally, I think there will be different expectations.

Having said all that, I've made is plainly clear that I don't rate Melksham, however I'm prepared to back in the FD.

What's his role ?

Brendan mcartney and simon goodwin would be the perfect two to judge if jake is any good, willing to back them in, i think he will slot into the best 22

What's his role ?

No idea, mate. Haha. Ask the FD. :P But I suspect either Vince will continue in the shut down role or it will be handed to someone else, potentially Melksham.

I hope that when he does come to us, which seems likely, he is given the benefit of the doubt and everyone doesn't try to find fault.

He obviously has talent and Goodwin must have had a close look it him.

I have little faith in the system at Essendon overseen by Hird. He may well flourish in a new environment.

What's his role ?

Hopefully not a tagger. Bring him in and tell him to play on instinct. Looking at his under 18s game he does show alot of serious potential as an attacking mid. I personally think Essendon have tried to turn him into a player he is not. I hope he starts racking up big numbers in the midfield because for us to move forward its guys like Melksham that needs to go up a gear.

Doesn't seem to be a tagger - looks more like an outside runner with a bit of toe.
