It all depends what the deal is. I trust our current recruiters.

If the speculation is true and we are trading Watts that is almost it for me. Trade a dude when he starts to show promise. Good stuff MFC.

Another embarrassing loss to Greatest Waste of Space should lead to a lot of list turnover. Bring it on big time!

That is stupid and worse than mere negativity. There will be a turnover - we don't need an embarrassing loss.

For those against a possible Watts trade. In case you missed last years finals make sure you watch this years. Ask yourself honestly would the intensity he brings stand up in finals.

If he is to be traded this would be Goodwins call I'm guessing, someone who has an idea about what's required.

How do we know Watts didn't ask to be traded.

Watts would not leave MFC at the drop of a hat. He is very loyal and loves the place. There are a number of contingencies here

* not playing his role as well as required against Freo

* has an offer from another club that MFC can use for some other advantage

* will resume former position as another player is unlikely to get up for Sunday

* just making way so Roos can get another look at someone else on the fringe

etc etc

wouldn't like to see Jack go - too many who cant use it and give away a guy who can , who needs a half back? goldy for dixon , gws for who?

Watts would not fire a shot in the intensity of a finals game. He is expendable, and hopefully this dropping is a sign we have a trade lined up to net us something good for him.

If he asks to be traded I won't blame the MFC obviously... the people who talk about his intensity are the people i suspect don't watch melbourne games... particularly the second half of the season.

Pendulbury plays a similar style... would you question his intensity?

Why would we turf one of the few guys in our side who can actually use the footy?!

Maybe you could send your pocket money in. Worked for that little girl last time.

Don't want to throw fuel on the fire but here's what a friend texted me a few days ago (I've waiting to see if something like this might happen):

"Hot news for you mate... We did a membership poster thingy for Melbourne footy club with jack watts as the front cover. They just rang and asked if he can be replaced. Hmmmm"

Obviously it might not mean anything - but if you add that to his unexplained dropping this week then it starts to feel like something MIGHT be happening.

Could be simple explanations:-

-Maybe they want to put Jesse on the front cover after he wins the Rising Star award!

-Maybe Jack isn't playing for team balance reasons and so they can give the kids a go.

It doesn't make sense to not play him just because there is a trade in the wings.

On that basis why play Howe? He obviously didn't like the offer we made him and wants to go.

I'm hoping and praying that Jack is a Dee for many years to come.

Despite all the adversity, I would really stuggle to watch Jack line up in another side's colours. He's our lad. Don't know if I've ever wanted to see a bloke succeed so much. I just pray it's with us that he gets that success.

Anyway, it's probably just another case of Roos' bizarre team selections this year.

Well it wouldn't if it was the MFC's call...

Gee your intensity is a bit off.

Pendles wins his own footy, whilst being tagged and rips games apart. Watts has to be in space and have it delivered perfectly. Pendles leads by example.

What ever Jack Watts is worth this year, it is much more than it would be next year in my opinion.

I would be happier keeping Jack Grimes who is about equally effective because Grimes gives it a red hot go.

Watts is worth more on the table though.

My speculation proves accurate. You don't watch MFC games.

I won't renew my membership if we trade him.

Harmes Brayshaw Jkh White

A look through the window at tomorrow perhaps

yep.. & maybe, just maybe, both clubs having a peek at one anothers young & fringe list players ?

I won't renew my membership if we trade him.

I said an equally silly remark at the end of David Cordners career.

Watts did enough in his 4-5 weeks of quality form to raise his trade value to a point that may have relevance. I suspect he is the bait for a bigger deal. Not out of contract so would be for the right price.

If you think Pendles and a Watts have similar styles you are mistaken.

The bit about your pocket money was a joke but having read some of your comments I think I was pretty much on the mark.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
