Dees to wear Aboriginal Armbands

Goodes threads are Hydra-like. Chop off one and another two replace it.

well, people care about Him. & don't like the treatment of him just for being honest & taking a stand.. these reactions say a lot, not only of Adams courage to stand in the face of a fire storm, but also that people don't really respect peoples right, for them to step out of line Over an issue that's is important to them.

I say 200 years of torment & public degrading of his peoples is too much & We all must learn what its like for them.

Politicians - Wake Up.....It's time to stand up & have our Koori's heritage firmly planted into our kids Australian history classes

get to it mr rabbot

They say that unless you’ve felt racial or religious oppression personally then you don’t know what it really means. That’s why I find much of the discourse we’re having at the moment so distasteful; and some of the excuses given to justify the constant booing of Adam Goodes are so patently pathetic that it beggars belief.

I support the players’ stance of wearing Aboriginal colours in support of Adam Goodes who is a great Australian and without doubt a person of quality which I measure far beyond those who boo him.

For several years I have also worn a symbol of my support for our Aboriginal people in honour of those members of the community who on 6 December, 1938 led a march down Collins Street to the German consulate where they attempted to present a petition to the German consul-general, D.W. Dreschler in protest against the "cruel persecution" of Jews in Germany in the wake of Kristallnacht -- the night of broken glass – when the Jews were targeted for killings or bashings, and Jewish businesses and homes were smashed.

We know where that led and I wear my black bracelet in honour of Reverend William Cooper who organised what I understand was the only protest in the outside world at that time. For more about Reverend Cooper, see here.

This entire controversy is bringing shame on the country and the sport and I salute our indigenous people and Adam Goodes for the dignified way in which they have put up with this tragic episode.

oppression is not just racial or religious W_J

people who have been relentlessly bullied & put down, also know the same sort of feelings. it can even happen within family's, & certainly to a few soft targets at schools. ...... this is one reason why suicide is so prevalent in society.

but the other side of oppression is, survivors can have a lot of empathy & care for others.

I’m against the Dees wearing indigenous armbands in support of Goodes.

I’m FOR the Dees wearing indigenous armbands in support of indigenous people (of whom Goodes is just one member).

Nah, they are doing it to support a mate.

Sounds pretty Australian to me - whichever way you define Australian...

Even though i think many in this affair are over reacting, I have to agree with the poster who said that, at some stage, you have no right to decide if comments/booing or whatever, are offensive. The person on the end of it is the one who decides how he feels about it, and in Goodes case, he has decided that its racist.

Even though I think he is thin skinned, he is the one copping the boos, or abuse from over the fence, so I guess he is in a better position than I, to decide if its racist or not.

I think people can exacerbate an issue by complaining about it, but if all of the players from oppo teams think they should take a stand, then there is probably something to it Munga.

.... so, someone, who is sitting next to another, who is booing Goodes, has no right to perceive the reason of this booing? And so can't, or shouldn't, say anything to dissuaded the boo-er of her/his bullying ???

.

Listen Daisy, there's only one Pineapple advocating nonsensical solutions here. Stick to what you do best.

ok, i'll stick to the serious stuff

just don't suggest bananas but

Nah! Rangey had a few clues- Stu is a dumb [censored]!

yeah he definitely does seem a bit off the pace.

Its amazing that someone like range rover who was so passionate about his opinions and spent so many hours on here could just fall off the grid like that. Must have found himself a girl

I'd prefer if we wore headbands.

I'd prefer it, if our Indigenous-armbands were painted on Pre game, by our Local Indigenous people, & with they're blessings.

.... So, anyone who, at any time in the future, decides to boo Goodes, for any reason OTHER than racism, cant do it, because you dont like it?

Protected species?

Untouchable?

Why?

how about throwing pineapples then? :)

Throw bananas you wimp :):lol::mad:

I'm told uncle Bitters will be pointing the bone tomorrow as a show of solidarity.

Lets hope no children can bear witness.

Found love within himself instead. Much like his posts

I'm told uncle Bitters will be pointing the bone tomorrow as a show of solidarity.

Yeah but when his missus is involved it doesn't count

Now that he has Abbott and Jamie Packer in his corner we should listen.

These are the leaders calling for change.

I'm off to stick a fork up my arse.

Untouchable?

that s not what I'm saying faulty, & I think you know that... after all, I am a fully fledged booing protector & encourager. Especially at those who belt someone behind play like a Robinson, or for players who may ankle-tap,,, or others who may not be having a real dip, as in our team at Kardinia Park some time back.

but when booing turns into Bullying & vilifying its an assault really. & an insult to our game... I was one who booed the $cullies for obvious reasons.

I'm told uncle Bitters will be pointing the bone tomorrow as a show of solidarity.

do you mean uncle bitters will be roooting, for him? will he be at the game? hooroot Bbo.

don't forget, the rabbot is minister for aboriginal affairs, a sort of cultural attache` for them. how can they lose, with him in their corner. apart from all their welfare?

Sigh. You're calling Goodes untouchable and a protected species because people are objecting to the fact he has been singled out for mass harassment?

I wonder how many ways this can be explained...

Booing Goodes isn't racist.

Not booing about a hundred other players who meet all the same 'valid reasons' people claim to have for booing Goodes... that is racist.

Let's see how it goes if a bunch of people get together and start booing Gary Ablett Jn every time he touches the ball, on account of the string of 'Jesus made me special and loves me' articles that have come out, the pre-game prayer sessions posted on social media, going on the Footy Show making a special point of talking about his religion, and anything else anyone cares to find annoying.

Maybe we should start a thread of nominations for equal-opportunity booing?

Good gesture (Although we better play like it means something)

I don't think any of our fans booed Goodes in Round 6, honestly. He only played the 2nd half though so I don't think anyone cared enough by then

This is being dealt with at all levels of the game, with the peanut in charge, and now the club captains weighing in. I have a feeling that there will be pushback from the "racist" element, and they will continue unabated, at least in the short term. I will hazard a guess that the majority of people who simply dont like Goodes, for reasons other than race, will check their actions for a while, as the media spotlight will certainly be on the crowd, when next Goodes plays.

Let people boo Ablett if they wish. Its possible to dislike him for thinking he is greater than everyone else, but not give a stuff about his religion. Until this week, I had no idea he was a "bible basher", and I really couldn't care less.

Maybe the more politically correct among us, can draw up a,list of acceptable boos, and circulate them, so the ignorant cretins in the crowd, will know if they are doing something that will prevent a visit from Santa each year.

Im really not sure why we (demonlanders), engage each other in stuff like this. Never changes any opinions.

We are Melbourne. We wont...........

All time great is Goodes. Australians have never liked a tall poppy.

Pi ss poor post - even by your pi ss poor standards Stu.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha funny how you conveniently find a conscience when it involves having a go at me...

Biggest f.l.o.g of all time.

well lets hear their reasons for booing, if they must be so unsocial to an individual, on a weekly basis, let them tell us all, what are their reasons? it seems no one knows, its time to hear from them!

not true, we don't like real arrogance... who does

if a tall poppy behaves like an arrogant superior twirp, then they will be roundly disliked.

so success isn't a recipe for arrogance or for being disliked.

keith urban is successful. dame edna is successful, rolf harris is successful, oh hang on, there's something coming back to me?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
