DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 16

Featured Replies

6: hogan - he was clearly the difference btw the two sides, and it's scary to think how ordinary we would be without him

5: gawn - went up against two genuine ruckman and more than held his own, and his around-the-ground game is improving weekly

4: howe - i have maintained that he's a natural defender and he absolutely nailed that role today, intercepting and sparking rebounds

3: cross - that he's so positively ancient and still able to influence the play the way he does says a lot about his quality; sign up for 2016

2: viney - aother excellent run-with role where he was able to not just curtail his opponent but get the pill too; remains me so much of kane cornes in that respect

1: garlett - provided great defensive pressure and also contributed to the scoreboard - just needs to nail the set shot doddles!

6 - Anyone that was lucky enough not to watch that game.

5 - Hogan. Nudges out Max because he goes against team rules and kicks goals.

4 - Gawn. Love him.

3 - Viney. Watching the intensity top teams play at, Viney for me is the only one that looks like he always plays at that level. He's really smashed this season.

2 - Cross. Challenging Ingerson for my favourite player we've recruited from another club.

1 - Howe. I don't want to, but he was good. Should try doing it twice in a row.

6 - Cross (After his first shocker for us last week, you knew he'd come out firing)

5 Gawn (Our best player after half-time but wasn't a major factor in the first half when we won it)

4 Hoges (Seemed to enjoy a weaker opponent this week, but still a tad untidy)

3 Jetta (I really loved his intensity and run this week and that tackle on Hanley in the goalsquare was huge).

2 Viney (It's great turning up at a game and knowing we won't be whimping out. Rockliff had 17 tackles and probably 10 were trying to stop Jack).

1 Howe (Probably rough given he had 11 marks. A very good 6th best player).

Honorary mentions: Dawes (yes, he took six marks) and Vandenberg (Another game where you can't believe this guy is a first-year player).

why doesn't demonland publish the weekly results?

to work it out i have to find last weeks post and do it by subtraction. and who can be bothered to do that

dc, I was trying to answer your question as to who could be bothered doing the subtraction. It seemed to me that you had worked out how to do it and therefore probably actually done it...hence, I thought you could do the exercise for all of us. I was actually going to suggest you were being selfish having got that far and not posted the weekly result for us.

I reckon cross would be top couple in the bluey right now

why doesn't demonland publish the weekly results?

Good question... never thought of that but it'd be much better

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
