We have taken several NQR players in the past, either because we wanted to freshen the list and prove players would come to us, or we simply misjudged their ability.

We should not be taking anyone for depth, other than perhaps a backup ruckman.

IMO we should be trading for established players who would be in our best 22, or players we believe can make it under our development regime.

Got it from Bigfooty:

Caro on 3AW said Hartlett has been officially told the club wants to trade him to clear salary cap room for Dixon.

The Crows and Melbourne are into him, This means they can only accept picks only.

That's a bit steep.

What about moving back 5 spots for Hartlett?

Im liking this. Hartlett would be a good pickup. Is he an adelaide lad though?

Can't believe Port would trade Hammer. He's a jet.

If we can pinch him I'd be ecstatic but the Crows will go hammer and tongs to secure him.

There is no way Hartlett would crossover to another Adelaide team.

I'd back us to be more of a chance then the Crows.

Why? It would mean he doesn't have to pack up his life and move interstate. The hatred between Crows and Port is a childish media beat up. Various players/coaches have made the switch.

Yes please on Hartlett.

And there is no way we are going after Melksham for "depth". We have depth players already, problem is they are 10-20th best players on our list rather than 20-30th. Roos and co will want Melksham playing 22 games a year.

According to a Port supporter on BF, he has only just moved into his new house.

Id take this with several grains of salt.

I wonder if to get rid of the salary cap pressures the power would be willing to entertain young master Wines moving to the Dees in exchange for a couple of good picks, maybe picks 5 and 23 for Wines and a later pick

There would be something to this...in as much as Adelaide as a footy town is VERY parochial. Id be surprised also if he would /could change allegiances there.

He'd be 'safer' leaving town.

There's actually a pretty solid history of players, coaching and administrative staff switching btw the crows and the power.

Hammer would be our best mid. Seeing as we are apparently not in the race for Bennell this becomes my next Get. It. DONE.

Port would be over a barrel in a trade needing to create the cap space. That means they shouldn't get true value re: draft picks. The value to them is the cap space. They cannot say "No thanks", they must trade if they want Dixon.

However, Adelaide would be far more attractive to Hartlett as he wouldn't need to move, plus Adelaide should be fine on cap space to accomodate assuming they lose Dangerfield.

Where Melbourne would have the advantage is to offer Hartlett a better deal than Adelaide can or want to. More years, more cash.

In effect, I don't think this will come down to giving Port a great deal on draft picks, it will more be about convincing Hartlett he wants to be at Melbourne, and then the rest will happen even if it looks like Port get ripped at face value. Melboune's second round could well be enough given the scenario.

Hartlett's brother's career was destroyed by soft tissue leg injuries, and if memory serves Hamish also had some issues a few years back. There is a reason Port have decided he is the one to go as they would have multiple options to clear cap space, medical due diligence would be key.

Imagine we didn't have the currency because of the Jake [censored] Milkman bs. Would just about be enough to tip me over the edge..

Mate I have spent time living in Adelaide.

The rival is one of the most fierce I have seen. Between players and supporters.

Make. It. Happen. Is all class and a good balance of inside and out.. At 25 is coming into his peak.

I look forward to the numerous trade scenarios stating Hartlett for M Jones, Grimes and Terlich is fair.

Hartlett for M Jones, Grimes, Terlich, the complete box-set of Friends on DVD and a years subscription to Better Homes magazine.. Get it done

Currently in bali and by chance met up with Ollie and a few other port lads. Really nice guy, very humble young lad. Meeting up with him again tomorrow as well as a few melbourne boys, lll see if he is keen to move back to Melbourne any time soon ;)

As for my latest danger field news, have still got nothing. He is keeping it very close to his chest and I would say by the time I get back from Asia, he will already have announced his decision.

If Hartlett story is true, I would imagine Port would prefer he goes to another club than Crows.

Ok, given some of the news today i'm going to give my best Prendergast impersonation, but much more optimistic this time!

Currently 6 senior list spots vacant.

Promote Vandenberg, Harmes, White

Delist but re-rookie M. Jones & Terlich

Trade Toumpas, Pick 6 & Pick 43 to Port for Harlett, Pick 29 & Pick 65.

Trade Howe to Gold Coast for Gorringe & Pick 19.

Trade Grimes & Pick 19 to Hawthorn for (what i suspect will be) Pick 16.

Trade Pick 29 to Essendon for Melksham.

Pick up Dangerfield as a free agent. 9mill over 6 years.

Delisted free agents: Cameron Giles & Daniel Markworth.

National Draft Pick 16: Mitchell Hibberd

Pick 25: Kurt Mutimer

Rookie Draft: Jack Watson

Angry after all that comes to fruition, in which year do we then win the flag?

I'll go for 2018 EH. Allow for finals run next year and near miss the following. Also gives us tome to find that forward who pinch hits in the ruck to support Hogan.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The Demons were sloppy all day and could not stop the run and carry of the fast moving Hawthorn as the Hawks cruised to an easy 36 point win. Is the season over yet?
