Delistings/trades at end of the season

Recommended Posts

Iv been saying we should trade Watts for years but last week seeing him play changed the way I think about him.

I think he is the biggest game changer our team has. Some of the things he did last week to turn the swing of the game were amazing, no one else in our team has that IQ and talent.

No one else in our team can swing a game around like Watts can when he is on

Turn it up. It was good to see him contributing . Nothing more. Lets see him get in our best before we start pumping him up like you just have.

I agree it's weird but I saw some of the play switches and damn he knows how to give our boys space and time to launch and attack.

Hope we don't trade him as we don't really have spare utilities to fill the void left

Same could've been said about Garlett.

some are not ahead of themselves, & think they're bigger than the club & the team.

Could be but Garlett's attitude doesn't affect his training and getting his body prepared

we want pace & unafraid of a physical contest hard workers... garlett still is a flash in & out type atmo.

I don't think there are any issues with Garlett's attitude. I may be wrong but the only thing I remember him being involved in off field is the recent indecent where he was the one who was attacked, he seems pretty committed to his family.

let Roosy choose the head screwed on well types.

We'd be lucky to get a Morton for Dawes

ah, but we should be looking at least

As to those paying out on Dawes I think it's a bit harsh, the guy works hard and definitely gave us something when we wernt doing too well under the Neeld regime.

That said I think he does have value and now would be a good time to see if we could get anything back for him in a younger player which fits our age demographic better.

He played under Neeld for half a season for a handful of games.

Hopefully we can trade him but his value is limited:

Is 27 with a calf injury since 2011 so can't play a full season.

Has averaged 1 goal/game with MFC (1.2 at Pies)...poor for even for the 3rd forward.

Being paid over $500K pa (unless contract front-ended).

Works very, very hard but for very little impact.

So, can we get anything for him?

Doubt it...steak knives maybe (and we would still have to pay part of his salary).

We are stuck with him...a depth player till end of contract in 2016.

Harmes and King playing well at Casey so at this rate we may need to upgrade 3 rookies: Vandenberg, King and Harmes!

Each is certainly making a case for upgrade.

Otherwise another team might pinch King and Harmes!

Did you hear our Prime Minister with steely gaze explaining "we are too soft"? Thought of Demonland.

From now on every time I read a poster complaining about this one or that one of our players being "soft", I'll be able to put the face to the comment. Picture it every time you hear it - "soft", in Abbott triplicate, complete with that manly tongue-flicking. Bring it on, fellas, there's vision now! Maybe I should find out how to do the gif.

Meantime, others of us will listen to Paul Roos, valuing other attributes...

With Patton still pencilled a spot at GWS, how about James Stewart as that resting ruck option?

21 years old, 198cm, can kick a goal.

Not meaning to criticise but the way Max King is going he is a very similar type.

Max, soon to be 20, 200cm, can kick a goal. (Kicked 5 today with Scoprions)

Just needs some experience! Max can be our Mitch Clark, or Kurt Tippet or ...

Very encouraging, how Maxy went today, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. If he keeps on chipping away in the VFL and gets some form behind him then maybe, but Stewart is looking very comfortable at AFL level already.

Gone... m jones, terlich, mckenzie, fitzpatrick, bail & hunt (not developed).

retire... jamar

Thats 7 spots.

draft 4 (Harley Balic),22 (Sam Weideman),38 (Blake Hardwick),trade in Dean Towers (Sydney for pick 56), free agent Leuenberger and rookie upgrade for Harmes and Vandenburg. King stays for yr3 as interstate rookie.

Towers needs AFL action. Missing out due to Swans strength.

Interesting now we start to hear which players clubs are chasing etc. But you never hear Melbourne as one of the clubs mentioned.

Im guessing this isnthe work of Peter Jackson and Todd Viney in going about things very quitely.

No. Wrong. Do you seriously think good players from other clubs would want to come to Melbourne? There are 14 teams above us on the ladder. We have to build through the draft.

I would keep Matt Jones personally. Grimes, Watts & Mckenzie should be moved on before Matt is even thought about. We gave Watts a fair run of chances...why not Matt Jones...who can seriously run!

The Russian may have another year left IMO also, but he's either injured atm or he may no longer be up to the rigours of AFL with such poor form.

On another note..

Its been a long time coming but if Spencer plays another game like he did the other week then he will get a gig over Gawn frequently.

Gawny I love, but I don't think he's as mobile now...doesnt seem to cover the ruck contests as quickly as spencer who may well have a bigger motor.

Gawny might just be a pinch hit fwd & ruck option. But the man I call Ned with the Bushranger beard go's pretty good when on song!

Our club doesn't leak unless they want to, but i know 2 players personally whos managers have had conversations with the club, not that that guarantees anything, very common practice these days

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
