So we are 1/3 of the way through the season. Having so many injuries might be a blessing from a long-term perspective because it gives the club an indication which of the fringe players can step up and earn their spot, or otherwise demonstrate themselves as list-cloggers.

At this stage, I would say the following players may well be delisted at season's end -

McKenzie

Terlich

M.Jones

Bail

Fitzpatrick

Players that may well be traded -

Grimes

Toumpas

Howe

Watts

Trengove (if any takers)

Thoughts?

playing today, let's just see what they have this year at Senior level before running a line through them, shall we?

Give it a few weeks. Fitzpatrick and Watts are important to us if they can find their range. Toumpas hasn't yet done what we hoped to see once he got past his hip problems. Trengove ditto his foot. Too early to tell on these guys, i think.

We stand on the outside, and the players just don't tell it the way we do. Wise-guy negativity aside, we have to accept it's too early for us on the outside to know.

Might be a good sign this thread was made BEFORE todays game and not immediately after it.

Go Dees.

Pretty sure Matt Jones and Terlich are contracted? At this stage i'd probably add Jamar and Riley to the list though. Also Max King and Jayden Hunt will both need to show something at VFL level before the season is out.

As for Trengove, i can't see any takers given his injury history. I'll back him in to make a full recovery and become a vital cog in our midfield rotation.

"Gee I am sick of MFC not developing players properly", so let's rush a guy who has had a serious back injury and a 19 yr old who is still leaning his craft, this post is one of the reasons I love Demonland and its posters

According to the demonland contracts thread we have a large number out of contract. You would think delistings would likely come from those out of contract.

The Thread lists the following player out of contract :Trengove, Jamar, Garland, McKenzie, Howe, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Toumpas, Pedersen, Hunt, Cross, Bail, Riley, Harmes, King, Vandenberg, White.

I think Jamar and cross could hang up their boots at seasons end, meaning we would still be likely to make another 4-5 list changes. VandenBerg will be upgraded, and the other 3 rookies will likely be retained for another year.

There are a few on this list playing for their careers. Garland will be offered good money to stay, and you would think with Jamars pending retirement that Gawn and/or Fitzpatrick will get at least another 1-2 year deal until we figure out our ruck situation . Pedo has done enough for an extension, however he could be on the table for trade. The remaining list changes are likely to contain a bulk of the players I haven't mentioned, and the odd trade we don't see coming.

Howe will likely be traded, I hope he is used to secure an asset that will help us immediately.

Yep Hunt and King definitely need more time. Don't think it's unreasonable for them to show something first though - as well as a will to work hard on their weaknesses

Don't recall saying you can lock them in for a delisting, just that they'll need to show something to ensure they remain on the list before the years out. They'd hardly be the first players delisted after 2 years. And that's not just us, look at all the clubs and you'll see a similar list turn over.

Rather than list those who could be gone come years end, i'll list those that i believe we need to keep (will save some time). The rest can be de-listed or traded for all i care.

Must keep in order of appearance on mfc website:

Hogan, N Jones, Salem, Viney, Lumumba, Brayshaw, Gawn, Tyson, Dunn, Stretch, Kent, Frost, Vince, Kennedy-Harris, T McDonald, Petracca, O McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Garlett, Jetta, vandenBerg.

That's 21/44 spots on the main and rookie list. Keep in mind these are the "must keeps" which include draftees from last year (too early to possibly cull). Others not listed will no doubt play a role and some of them will be important roles.

KPD's - 4 (Dunn, Frost, T McDonald, O McDonald)

SPD's - 3 (Salem, Lumumba, Jetta)

Mids - 6 (N Jones, Viney, Brayshaw, Tyson, Vince, Petracca)

Rucks - 1 (Gawn)

KPF's - 1 (Hogan)

SPF's - 3 (Kent, K-H, Garlett)

Other - 3 (Stretch, N-B, vandenBerg)

In my breakdown, it highlights our need for more 'must keep' Rucks, KPF's and Mids that can play in numerous positions.

Nothing we didn't already know. As already highlighted by another thread, fix our midfield problems and we give our forwards more opportunities and can negate our ruck weaknesses by roving the opposition.

We also need to find ourselves another quality KPF to support Hogan, as Dawes is clearly not it. Another good ruckman (provided Gawn makes it) will help handle the ruck load.

Our priorities for draft/trade:

1 - Mids

2 - KPF

3 - Ruck

We needs gets mids and we will need to secure a top ruck. Jamar is gone and we can't rely on Gawn to step up.

Harsh on Trengove when we need mids.

Also reckon Cross has one more year in him.

Injuries aside, he has done nothing since 2011. That's coming up on 4 years. Toumpas has been on our list for 3 and people are calling for his head.................

I like it. Sad thing is many don't see Grimes and Watts as fringe players. Last nights game showed they don't have it in them, more than enough chances, must go. I'd even sound out a Lions/Carlton with regards to Dawes, but I think we'll be stuck with him next year.

I thought this thread was in bad taste... But after seeing Bail on the field again, I can confidently say that he should never play AFL again.

Cross is worth another year whether he plays seniors or not, him being a backup/playing coach at Casey would be valuable to any new mids we draft this year.

And again, after the horrendous holding the ball, all he needed to do was tap the ball ahead to Garlett... Cost us a straightforward goal.

He's had long enough and just isn't up to it.

I love Grimes for his endeavour, but those shocking kicks along the boundary line are still a big part of his game.

can't afford to lose Cross. no way

trengove has to be our project player, our display of true loyalty... he is one worth waiting for, like sheedy with Ramanaskus.

Bail- Just not skillfull enough
Mckenzie- no skills
Jamar- Time to move on from him
M Jones- Need to play quality kids instead of him
Cross- I'd like another year from him
Terlich- Surely gone barrring contract issues

Can't see Trengove traded. Surely stay on a low wage. He's a fighter and will be back.

I think we'll see six go from the main list. Bail, McKenzie, Jamar, M Jones, Terlich and Howe to be traded. Grimes will probably get a one or two year deal on very little cash. At least, that's how I'd play it.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
