Wasn't it ASADA's job to join the dots, rather than the Tribunal? That may sound like a pithy and pedantic comment, but wasn't that the way the process was meant to work? ASADA had to present a case that would "join the dots" to the comfortable satisfaction of the Tribunal and, in the Tribunal's view, failed to do so.

Most important that WADA tackle the inference that the AFL could be, in conjunction with the imprimatur of any Australian Government silly enough to condone, considering walking away from an international drug enforcement agreement and playing by themselves.

One idea that I have would be if I was WADA to start sounding as if this case is going to be "RUN FROM THE ROOFTOPS" with evidence to be, during the case, put out there for everyone to know about not just in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia but seeing as this case could be a potential watershed for the world to digest in World Sporting circles in particular.

My recollection of the AFL agreeing to be under the WADA code was that federal government funding was at risk, including money to be spent on stadiums.

If the AFL forged ahead without WADA it would be the beginning of the end of the AFL as the number 1 code in Australia.

As for the AFLPA, they are simply showing what their real mission is, and that is to protect the players MONEY, in preference to their health. Watch them change tack when guily verdicts are given, or positive test results are found. Then it will be six shooters blazing into the sky, while they charge like a western posse towards the nearest court. Their behaviour in all of this has been disgusting also, but you can read their future like a book.

Thats precisly what I was trying to say. They have chosen to protect player income, over player health. Sticks out like dogs thingys.

They should be threatening essendrug with court action, unless they can prove what went inside the players.

I notice on here recently that many are calling for Essendon to be suspended for 2-4 years or banned altogether. I think we should be a bit careful what we wish for. How about something like this?

A. Essendon admit their responsibility for this affair, and apologise to the broader football community for bringing the game into disrepute, and putting their players health at risk, and apologise to the broader Australian sporting public for tarnishing the good name of Australian sport;

B. Hird, and his key staff get life bans, some of the Board including Little resign, and basically rebuild the club from within. The new administration would then have to undertake to put in place a governance regime reflecting the WADA code and best practice risk management; and

Maybe some good could come out of all yet.

Agree about careful what you wish for. But:

A. I don't care if Hird/EFC admit responsibility (I do care if they admit guilt). I don't care if they apologise to anyone or no-one. I do want Hird punished.

B. On Life Bans: Most of Hird's staff at the time are gone as are most of Little's then board and a new governance regime is already in place. To ban Hird's then staff is only going to penalise a lot of people who have gone on with their lives, had little to do with the 2012 program and are at other clubs eg our very own Simon Goodwin...I want him coaching at the Dees not on the sidelines, watching.

Plenty of good has already come out of it and the AFL game will be stronger regardless. Having said that nothing will change the AFL's penchant for controlling, pulling strings and favours.

FWIW. I think the players will be found guilty and will receive suspensions (< 1yr) which will be backdated so they will not miss games. I am ok with such an outcome as the players aren't the real villains here. I doubt EFC will be punished from the WADA appeal. (Can't speak for the Worksafe review)

So Esssendon will continue as a viable entity.

In normal circumstances i'd agree with you, but i'd strongly argue that due to the sheer weight of injections, the question makes surrounding the legality of the injections and so on they'd have a duty of care to know what the players were being injected with, and keep a record of that incase health issues arise
