He's kicked more goals in a game before but he hasn't dominated like that before. He was in everything up forward. He really is going to be unstoppable soon enough.

Agreed, although there has been a bit of gifting. :P

Just the thoughts of a jealous random [censored].

What he's achieving is phenomenal and he already gets marked harder than most as expectations are ridiculously high. He's 21 and hasn't even played 30 games.

Boyd has played roughly the same number of games and Dog's supporters constantly call for him to be given 'time'. Patton is older and looked far more at home behind the ball (defence) on the weekend. And Saints fans wet themselves over an 11 disposal/2 goal game from McCartin.

Hogan is a young player who is already judged against his own high standards, while others are "given time". I'm sure he wouldn't have it any other way.

I'll agree on a few points.

Body language can be poor. I do hate it when he argues instead of getting on with the game and his chasing/tackling is pretty much... terrible.

Boyd and Patton both Backline Players. Don't like attention. Stands out like dogs.

I don't really get upset about what the media says, as in the end I find it irrelevant. However, this article is disgraceful.

Besides being factually incorrect on multiple occasions, the aggressive language used to belittle Hogan is pathetic.

I don't really understand what forum this is on but this bloke surely wouldn't be allowed to publish his stuff on any type of semi-respectable medium.

I cant even work out his angle. He's either a Fremantle supporter, trying to use sensationalist journalism to get his name out there, or Jesse has done something to him personally. He should be ashamed and embarrassed by that piece.

Bwahaha what a horrible ridiculous article

Hard work is not on his resume

OK mate - Hogan runs his opponents into the ground going up and down the field all day yet he doesn't work hard? What a knobhead.

Bloody hell...this guy is good at kicking goals when it doesn't matter. And missing when it does.

Absolutely agree, cant ice them when we really need them. Bit of a trend here.

Costing us big time when we fight hard to get back into games.

If someone could make a gif of Hogan hilariously mocking Jesse White for ducking his head, that would be greatly appreciated.

I am probably alone on this but I think Hogan has been poor at his attack on the ball out side of marking contests and his chasing and tackling is non existent.  Yesterday he gave up so many times when the ball was being taken out of our F50.

He was much better at this last year. No idea why this is occurring but i hope it changes.  Defenders are waltzing away from him.

Defensive effort looks as though it could lift, definitely.

Yesterday was the first time I've ever seen him rag dolled on a number of times by a defender. Grundy is a big lad and has bundles of experience but usually Hogan never gives an inch. Hoping he bounces back after the bye with a couple of bags.

This is a weekly occurrence, not just yesterday...

Love his strengths, but hate his weaknesses and they go against everything Roos preaches.

Hahahaha contract should be reduced... that's hilarious.

Jesse Hogan is the wet dream of 17 other coaches, the most talented young forward in the comp by a mile and doing things no other forward in the history of the game has done at his age.

we will pay him whatever we have to if it means keeping him because he's just that good.

this is our Wayne Carey 2.0

You'd almost think it's the attitude of someone not fully committed. Until he signs he has not mentally bought into the club's future. As such he plays more like an individual in a game.

If he signs watch for the change up.

Sorry mate, can't figure out how to link the interview on its own - was more linking to the article anyway

Jesse Hogan’s improvement in 2016.

Also...

Tackles:
2015 - 1.4
2016 - 1.2

Contested Marks:
2015 - 2.4
2016 - 2.2

Effective Disposals
2015 - 68.6%
2016 - 65.7%

And let's not forget you're comparing half a season against a whole season and he's playing more game time this year than last year.

But hey, let's not say anything bad about the golden boy who is seemingly allowed to give up contests, not chase and not tackle because he's averaging 0.4 more goals per game...

I do not think he has been all that great this year, seems less hungry for the contest than he was last year.  Maybe he knows teams have had time to study him but still, has been disappointing more often than not.  And a lot more sooky.

I've not really said much as he may have been having a few bad weeks but in the wet when a bigger body means at contests he should be slamming in amd he doesn't and isn't attacking it as much as he should or has. It's worrying.

For someone who who is having 2nd year blues yet has only played 31 games and 21 years old he is well on his way to 50 goals this year.

Some of the comments are harsh.. He is still developing as a player and has a lot to learn in regards to defensive side of things but that will come with more maturity and experience.

Hogan is going just fine.

Some are concerned his tackles are going from 1.4 to 1.2 (which is approx. 3 tackles over 13 rounds).  That's the level of debate provided by some.  Ever checked the numbers of nearly all the great key forwards ?

But let's get the facts straight.  In the first 13 games Hogan played last year he made 13 tackles.  In the first 13 games this year he's made 18.  So even the point that was being made is factually incorrect.  He's made 5 more tackles this year from the same amount of games.

Hogan is the best young talent to come the club in 40 years, but naturally enough there are those who would rather concern themselves about his perceived lack of pressure in the forward 50.  Of all the things to dwell on they think a hulking 195cm forward could apply more defensive pressure.

It's about 77 on the list of things you could highlight or be concerned about.  Jeff Garlett being down an average of one tackle per game is of more concern, because that's a strong part of the role of a small forward.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
