he also said GW$ should be an easier opponent than the $un$

Start thinking like that and we get rolled.

It's not at the MCG. Makes it a tougher assignment

We must erase the soft MFC underbelly

Stop thinking the job is done.

So many times this club has lost the "easy" games in the past

It's a good thing RalphiusMaximus wasn't addressing the players before the game. He was posting on Demonland.

He is implying that if we play again like we did last week, then logically we should notch up a second win, which is a fair and reasonable thing to say

Enjoy the good times, but remember the first 6 rounds mean Jack Shite.

Historically 6 of the 8 teams in the 8 after 6 rounds will play in the finals, and conversely if you are not in the 8 after round 6 then you need a lot of things to go your way to make September, and even then you won't go deep into it.

i know what he is implying.

But is it going to happen?

This will be a good test for this new group of players.

That is all i am implying...

When was the last time we were inside the 8 at the end of a round ? I'd be guessing about round 5-6 2011 ?

Mid-2011, a few weeks before *that* game.

Heck we might even have been in the 8 at that point.

Round 14, 2011. We'd just beaten Richmond by 27 points, a week after thrashing Fremantle by 89. It was only for that round though (previously it was Rounds 4-7, 2011).

IIRC, that remains the most recent instance of us winning consecutive games, too.

Not wanting to put a hoodoo on the boys, but you'd imagine after 7 players debuted and a solidly won in Round 1, the boys will be eager to continue it into Round 2 without the nerves and new season doubts.

A win next week is vital. The fixture does us no favours after GWS, with Adelaide, Sydney, Hawks, Freo and Port all before Round 9.

You could really only pencil in Richmond (R4) and Bulldogs (R8) as winnable matches amongst that lot (but based on round one displays, even they'll be tough).

Fortunately we follow that up with a much easier drawer mid-season, but I worry the first 9 matches will knock the stuffing out of us if we keep up the intensity of round one.

Agree next week is vital. Oddly, last year we beat Adelaide and came close to Port, so, aside from the Hawks, we're a chance if this renaissance in our offence is the genuine thing.

Next week will tell a lot.

Would just hate to see the team go back in their shells if we get belted by the aforementioned teams over the next two months, just a shocking consecutive run of difficult matches. We have to soak up the positive energy from this win for all its worth.

Get through this with an upset or two under our belt, and we can focus on knocking off the Lions, Carlton, Collingwood twice and Saints twice (and hopefully GWS in the final round).

If we do win this week and end up 4-5 after 9 wins I will be absolutely stoked. With a very decent run from that point on it would give us a real chance to get somewhere near the 8 by year's end. The ones that worry me based on round 1 showings are clearly the top 2, adelaide and Hawthorn. I really don't want them to do to us what they did this week

Hawthorn is Hawthorn... back to back premiers and likely to grab a third. Adelaide on the other hand had a day out against an insipid North. Where they really are remains to be seen.

Can't see Walker and Betts getting 10 goals combined when they come up against Tommy Mac and Jetta

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
