POST MATCH DISCUSSION - ROUND 1, 2015

Don't want to be a negative Nancy but we did let the Suns kick 89 points. That is way too much for a team we dominated.

Yeah they have talent and yeah it was the first game and yeah it was exciting kicking all those goals after a goal drought for the last 5 yrs but I would like to see us tighten up a lot on the defensive side if we are going to get a lot better.....

Just sayin....

To all those that hung Viney out to dry last week.....suck Sith!!!! Jack came to play today and made sooo many posters look absolutely bloody DUMB! Played on the little Master and for all, except 10 minutes, had his measure. Well done Jack for believing in yourself and to Roosy and Staff, well done for believing and trusting in Jack. How quick things can change. Last week he was playing for his career according to the Master Coaches on DL!!!! LOL!!

I hope you are enjoying the school holidays...

Do you know if that deal gives you access online to MFC games ONLY (it doesn't say)

I'm assuming it must be MFC only because the AFL pass is about $150

It says it does but I watched the last 15 mins of the Lions game when they started playing football (TV was lost to the missus...) on my phone...

True, but just like the Dogs and Dons games in the preseason the coaches and players will learn much from this game. They'll learn what worked and they'll isolate where the Suns opened them up.

It's the first game afterall. They were never going to dominate every minute.

I agree with your post but last year we were losing games like this in the last quarter. On Saturday Melbourne kept scoring to win.

Actually with all their firepower its a great effort

I agree. We were actually lucky to win.

Some crucial luck went our way in the 2nd half and we made them pay.

Jack Watts Boundry Goal after a Sun boot kicked the ball OOTF.

Ablett spilling Gimme goal and we cleared the ball

A 2 point ball game we probably would have lost.

Heritier Lamumba kicking a goal after Toumpas completely choked and shat himself.

We won't get 2nd chances like that again

In saying all that. We did deserve to win.

All of our debutantes took the game on. Not one flinch

The trick is taking advantage and capitalising on any luck that may fall your way, even the good teams sometimes only win because they got lucky aka got out of jail. Anyway you make your own luck, what's to say our "luck" wasn't a result of pressure we applied?

We weren't lucky to win.

We had 46 more disposals, 14 more contested possessions, 33 more uncontested possessions, 18 more marks, 5 more contested marks, 3.5% better disposal efficiency, 9 less clangers, 13 more tackles, and 5 more inside 50's. We beat them in just about every important facet of the game. In fact, we had less clangers than any team so far this round.

Anyone else get the feeling he REALLY wants to come back and play this season? is there any chance of it happening?

Roos won't let it happen. He won't take any risks; same as what he did with Hogan.

Ablett takes that handball cleanly winning the stat count means very little.

I have just finished watching the game.

We took advantage of some huge pieces of luck in the 2nd half.

1st half we killed them

A major diff is that in previous seasons we wouldn't have taken advantage of their mistakes.

We would have fluffed around with the ball and stuffed it up.

We did take advantage of their mistakes on sat and got the chocolates.

Nice change hey!

Absolutely. Was great to watch.

But by playing such kamikaze Footy in the first half Fatigue did set in.

But it is an excellent effort to draw from

Best game Jeremy Howe has played for us.

He played a team game rather than taking spekkies

Howe and Garkand shown a side to their game I didnt k ow they had, or forgot they had. That Tyson goal that was set up by the Garland mark, turn and instant play on should be highlighted and re-run to the players as a timely reminder of what momentus footy is all about, and the advantages of catching your opponent off guard on the rebound

yep from the AFL Members back pocket to a Punt Road goal in seconds.

Why? Players running forward of the ball and spreading correctly...and of course great execution of ball carrying skills.

Unlike some other players with issues, Roos seemed to have lot of patience for Garland. He gave him a good run last season thought NQR. Appears to be paying off.

All part of the ebb and flow.

We won by a comfortable margin after 120 minutes of footy.

Yep, now watch him get back to his best and leave through FA at the end of the year. #MFCSSstillstrong

And there was Abblett - you are not goinjg to keep him down for 100 minutes, even injured. there is no one other like ablett in the AFL. Not even Scully (just kidding!)

Why did you leave and come back? I'm not complaining, It was just odd..

Gee....I don't believe the negative posts about what might have happened

If we played the perfect game the opposition would not have scored at all.

It was a good game of footy and mistakes happen in ALL games

Gold Coast are a good team and however it happened.....We beat them.....We kicked the goals that we have been screaming for for the past 5 years.....We attacked the ball and the man......We defended well and our midfielders ran and ran

What's not good about that

Enjoy the win....It wont happen every week

Roos has already ruled it out. Clearly he is not tsking any risked with this potential A-grader

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • PREGAME: Gold Coast

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
