Happy to have anyone who improves us, although Prestia is probably too similar to Jones and Viney for my liking, but he's not presently A-grade.

?

Hard to think of two mids less like him. He's only playing the inside role right now because they've got so many injuries. And while he's not playing at an A grade level right now, he does have a history for a couple of years there of being elite in a number of areas. The big ones we need in particular. Don't let his current job fool you. He's a super outside player. Pace, endurance, kicking. He's a jet.

Too small and his kicking is unreliable.

I don't see Prestia in a gun outside role.

Time will tell.

Fair enough. One man's trash etc.

I would say though that you don't need to see him in a gun outside role. He's already done it. We're not crystal balling here. 2013 and 2014 he played that role, and was averaging 25 and 27 touches a game those years. 2015 was the same til he was hurt, and he's not been too good since. Lost that extra yard and hasn't been too good disposal wise.

As far as kicking is concerned, I encourage you to have a close look at his delivery to forwards. Distance, shape and accuracy are what I see when he's not under an injury cloud, which he has been all year.

But as I say, to each their own.

I always liked him, but this year his kicking has been off and he seems to have lost that spark from the years you mention, but it could be that he needs another preseason post his knee injury.

I always liked him as a player and I remember the years you're referring to well as he was prolific (and a Melbourne supporting player as a kid, so took notice).

I like my outside players to have a bit of height and be a good mark, but I dare say he'd play both an outside and inside role well.

With Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Tyson, Salem, Stretch, Petracca and Jones as a developing midfield I'd like more of a speedster to complement the group. But we may already have him in Hunt, who could be developed into that role.

I'm not against any player, who makes us better, so I'd happily have Prestia, but I think the need for him is less than it was.

I don't necessarily disagree with everything you've said here, PD, but did you see his first two kicks to forwards yesterday? Only Watts and Petracca are capable of those bullet passes in our current team. His interrupted pre-season has certainly played havoc with his form, as he has been a little bit up and down this year, but in a couple of games this year (in an incredibly ordinary team), he's been one of the standouts.

Only got to see a bit of the second half.

Well nothing new but Tim Watson pretty much said that he spoke to a club recruiter (I wonder who that might be....) and Prestia is pretty much on his way back to Melbourne.

Eade  is [censored] off that he won't sign on. Thus giving him less time on the ball, less time on the ground, playing him in differ any positions. He is the best midfielder they have behind only Ablett. He was very close to coming last year, only his loyalty  to his teammates stopped him, now it's loyalty to family which is kicking in. He is very close to his immediate and extended family. We can never have too many good midfielders. Richmond, the team I hate passionately is very hot for him, I would die if he went there! This is extremely reliable 100% true.

I wonder if we have gone cold on him Frank?

Maybe, we're not in the same trading position as last year, having traded away our first round pick. We were "white-hot" after him but it wasn't the right time for him. Now, who knows? I know one thing, who ever gets him will get a class act both on field and off!

You're probably aware, but he obviously meant Victoria. For anyone that missed it and is now reading the name of our club and city.

Well we need him... tell the Tiges, that he's ours, & if they want to slug it out, we can & will oblige.

Eade is FOS.  great development coach.  But there is a lot of work to do up there, to turn things about.

la Pres best come home, to his favourite colours. otherwise he'll forever be in that 9th twilight zone.

I've thought the same thing, plus it appears that Prestia is going at half rat power through games. Coming back from injury is one reason, but he just doesn't seem to have the intensity this year that he has previously. Different circumstances, but it reminds me of Chip's final year with us.

Guy McKenna would be feeling cheated. He had that team hanging in there, even without a fit Ablett

What has Eade done apart from rip it apart?

He is not a Top Line Coach

Dion would be a pretty good pickup.. A big upgrade, let's be realistic .

What the mechanism is to get him here now ?  We'll know I expect soon enough

The mechanism is a first round pick, which despite the speculation on here and in the media, we can in fact trade at the end of this year.

As long as we keep bringing in good young kids, I'm okay with us being strategic with our first round picks.

If he goes, GCS are said to want a top 10 pick

We can trade one in for 2016.  AF, which player(s) and to who would you trade to get it?  Based on current ladder positions the 2016 picks are:  1.  EFC.  2 Lions.  3 GCS.  4. Freo.  5. GWS (Coll 2015 pick).  6. Carl.  7. StK.  8. Rich.  9.  GCS (Melb 2015 pick).  10. Port

Our 2017 1st rnd pick (hopefully) will not be top 10 pick and the more we improve the less attractive to GCS.

On a related note, GCS are said to want 2016 pick 1 and are prepared to trade their pick 3 plus 9 (from mfc in 2015) for it.  May well be very attractive to Ess or Lions, especially if they have quiet discussions as to who will go at pick 1 and 3...

these days it seems the player decides where he wants to go ("preferred club") and then the club to club dealing begins

we need to convince dion we are his "destination club" first

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
