David Parkin, Stan Alves, Alistair Clarkson, Nick Maxwell, and Brendan Bolton all stressed recently at a recent coaches conference that onfield coaches were important.

Bolton intimated it was a competitive edge that Hawthorn had as Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge were extensions of the coaches box.

That's all well and good if the onfield coaches contribute during the game and are automatic selections. To say we are blessed to have those players is clutching at straws, and has had little impact in the win/loss column.

And trust me, the players TDI stated are no Sam Mitchell or Luke Hodge.

Not sure about that. Roos ripped into Salem during one of the match practice drills for playing on and kicking long after taking a mark. Even though Salem's teammate took a contested mark from the resultant kick, Roos deemed that he should have waited and looked for other options that were less contested. Roos is all about taking the right option, not necessarily getting it forwards at all costs.

Excellent observation Mo. I thought Roos was pushing this more and more last season. Obviously an even bigger priority 2015.

and it's a welcome change given we are used to watching season after season of bombs into the forward line that are received by nobody

TBO, Hogan looks like he knows what he's doing and Garland needs to find a spot in the team..

It's not nitpicking, because it's not all about getting it forwards at all costs. If the best option is a kick sideways, then that's what the player should do.

Because he has so many AFL games under his belt? Garland has his spot in the team, or are you one that has Frost as a walkup instead

Don't know why, last year was so enjoyable to watch the boys play kick to kick for 2 minutes then to eventually turn it over with a clanger.

Who was Alistair Clarkson when he was playing? Would you have allowed him to be an 'onfield leader'?

He would have been anyway. You are judging the players' leadership ability based on their talent. Doesn't work like that.
