Further proof that Robert Shaw knows very little about football:

"A father-son, promoted rookies and arguably the two prized picks in the draft in Christian Petracca and Angus Brayshaw. But at with Melbourne we have seen that before. Melbourne has been deplorable in player development, yet blamed the recruiting staff pre Paul Roos and there is a lot of catching up to be done. Hopefully all is now in place to give Melbourne's kids an even chance of developing and the club of retaining its own early picks. It's not about talent identification for Melbourne any longer, just pure development."

A couple of sentences on each new recruit and a list of players is apparently "breaking down" the list.

Rounded off with a paragraph from Robert Shaw about poor development.

Insightful stuff.

None of these players have gone on to improve under the development of other clubs.

Players that have had success - were also successful at MFC.. Moloney won a b&f here, Stef Martin was our best ruckman when he left.

Players that have left and had success were also good players for the MFC. Players that haven't - simply weren't very good.

I'm not buying the excuse of development, it is too convenient. Sounds like something a non-sports person would say as he fails in a sporting arena.

We hear many stories about the training some of these kids from other clubs do - before they get into the system. Some players have drive and motivation - others expect to be handed games, sadly MFC drafted a lot of players who expected to be handed games.

We don't really need a detailed thesis on how we're travelling. Short and sweet is what you get from Peter Ryan on afl.com.au ~ Where's your club at? Pre-season training so far and what's coming up in 2015

MELBOURNE

Pre-season so far: Began training informally before other clubs and then stepped it up pre-Christmas with some serious running drills preceding skill sessions. Wise heads rated a late November running session as the club's hardest session ever. Jesse Hogan was working hard and Jimmy Toumpas is making every effort to justify his high draft selection, while Jack Trengove and Jack Watts were the biggest names on a tiny rehabilitation group. The players also undertook a form of the Paleo diet in an attempt to improve player energy levels. With very little dead wood on the list now, the Demons heads to the Sunshine Coast and Casey to continue training in January because soccer's Asian Cup is being played at AAMI Park.

Training return: January 5

Community Camp: Leongatha/Wonthaggi February 11/12

NAB Challenge games: Game one v Fremantle, Fremantle Oval, Thursday March 5, 4.10pm WST

Game two v Western Bulldogs, Eureka Stadium, Ballarat, Saturday March 14, 4.10pm EDT

Game three v Essendon, Etihad Stadium, Friday March 20, 5.50pm EDT.

Round one: v Gold Coast, MCG, Saturday April 4, 1.40pm

How would these journos know what is going on.

They may come down to one training session for pre season.

Unless of course they are in touch with "The Devil Inside"

They may as well get in touch with Saty he is unemployed and writes a far better report than these so called journos.

Or ring up the club to get some real info.

This garbage is just recycled from past years.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
