Interesting that he's taken on a defensive role. I never really saw that as the best part to his game, then again there were a couple of years where he'd play HBF and use that deadly left foot to release us through the middle.

Good luck Ooze, though I hope you get it terribly wrong when you play the Dees!

Well done to him - He is one ex - Demon that I have care factor zero about and I am not even sure why.

One of the most talented players we have had in the past 15 years but in my opinion cut some crucial corners in delivering consistently.

Nevertheless I wish him well.

And I would only want him back at the Club in a specific role if he is indeed the best person for the role.

I can't understand the headlong rush to have a plethora of ex players back at the club.

EFC has shown it's no surefire recipe for success.

Believe it or not 3 of their main off field personnel (Bruce, Oooze and Chris Fagan) spent a lot of their formative years at Melbourne under one Neale Daniher. I also believe Clarko got his first job after retirement as well under ND as a fitness coach. Fagan especially is rated as one of the best at what he does.

Well, I will say two potentially. I know Fagan is viewed as part of the glue that keeps Hawthorn together and he was Neale's right hand man throughout his tenure.

Agree Colin about Fagan. He is highly regarded at the Hawks and shares in their success.

In respect of Clarkson, was he runner for MFC when his playing days finished?

I am thinking 98-99 years.

I'm with you - I want the best at our club - if they happen to be ex MFc then well and good.

I also think that we get a distorted picture on how good assistants really are - firstly we have little to no insight but secondly how much easier would it be to be the midfield coach at the Hawks compared to the Dees ?

For that reason I really rate Clarkson as a coach as he took an ordinary Hawks and turned them into a powerhouse.

I think you are spot on about assistant coaches and what we know about them on DL.

Despite all the bravado shown, unless you observing things from the inner sanctum you don't know.

Clarkson is certainly a fine coach. He is also backed up by a top notch administration which no MFC coach in the last 20 years or so have had. But I can't help thinking that the Hawks were blessed with early picks in 2001 and 2004 that have set them up so well.

I was going to make the point re their administration. It is so important that all parts of the club are pulling in the same direction ( although Clarkson apparently was on shaky ground for the first couple of years) And 100% right - they got great early picks who either had abundant talent and/or were developed properly.

Loved watching Yze playing football.

Best of luck with the new gig mate.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
