WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRENDAN McCARTNEY

you would think we were hiring him as CEO or Coach the way a few posters are complaining

Since the events of recent memory nobody gets appointed to fulfill any task as the MFC (and that includes match day door person and boot studder) without full approval of the rank and file of Demonland. Please remember that.

I said it a bit earlier but basically my mum is friends with his wife and him. She knows nothing about footy and I tried to relay as much as i can remember her saying in the first post. She wouldn't lie to me, and I basically pried it out of her cos she didn't know the significance, and no one could lie like that with those details, and especially not her.
It was all said to her during a night together out either friday or thursday.
Nothing really more I can add. I was so excited I posted straight away.
I'll never get another scoop, well maybe off Brendan hopefully ;) So of course i'm a tad happy i actually got one. And stoked he is coming!
I'm telling you exactly what I was told and it's all good :)

WERRIDEE equals troll.

Because I don't blindly fall in love with every appointment Melbourne make?

I rate his possible appointment up there with the 2 year deal to Barry and the 1 year deal to Terlich.

He will give us what Craig gave us NOTHING. If we are fortunate maybe he will bring over a spud like Sellar.

He done nothing at Richmond, Essendon and the Bulldogs but got lucky at Geelong.

To all the other haters I remember getting abused by Demonland for my views on Prendergast when he was at the club, funnily enough no one is defending him now. So keep the hate up as I will have the last laugh when he fails.

You are a troll and this proves it.

Mcartney has never set foot at richmond. Do your reserch before looking like an A grade half wit.

Prove that you said that about BP?

Not quite true DD.

In 1998, he took a role with Richmond as assistant and development coach

He spent 10 years with Geelong rebuilding the Geelong footy club along with Mark Thompson and turn guy like GAJ Bartel Ling Scarlett Selwood into star because of his development. Mark thompson is a massive wrap for him.

James hird rated him as the best coach he has ever had.

Just find it funny how WD can say his coaching record has been a fail when his record as an assistant is right up there with the best.

I will cop my wack on the chin for obviously not knowing about the mini stint at richmond. But to write off a bloke more noted for his success assistant coaching is a complete joke.

1998-99.

Who's the half wit? Who doesn't do their research?

Look it up yourself. BP's not the only one I got right I got Sylvia, Cook, Bailey and Mark Williams just to name a few. My user name was LITTLE STINGA, bjgc could of been my username for my Bailey comments.

I think where you are wrong is that you don't have the right expectations or understanding of what creates a successful football club. You've highlighted in there with all your examples. I don't necessarily agree with those contract extensions but when weighed up with where our list was at and how many picks we will take to the draft they make sense.

You say Craig gave us nothing. What he actually did was give us a steadying presence by taking over for half a year, he also helped develop quite a few players and gave us some respectability when Neeld was running the place in to the ground. Craig had delisted Sellar at Adelaide, had barely played him. The recruiters wanted him and Craig only backed Sellar's character. Considering it was our last pick in a horribly compromised draft it wasn't much of a loss. Sellar gave us more than Tynan and Taggert that's for sure. Tall depth spuds like Tommy Walsh and Spangher were on Sydney's list when they won a flag.

He was at Essendon for a year and players raved about him. Crameri quit Essendon to play for him. Mooney and Scarlett signed on in a flash to work for him then quit the day after he did. He's made Libba, Macrae, Stringer and Bontempelli look like future stars of the comp in their early years.

I'm not going to claim we've signed some super savior. Not even Roos is that. But if we've signed McCartney for a development or assistants role where he can develop players then we will have done very well.

You say he got lucky at Geelong. I'll say Geelong put the right people in the right jobs and that's why they got lucky as a club. Kenny Hinkley is obviously a great coach at working with attacking players and getting hard work and hard football out of them. It's why he was the perfect assistant for Geelong especially with their forwards. McCartney knows how to bring youngsters along developing them in to complete footballers so that's the job you get him for.

Prove that Hird said it. Anyone could of turned those players into stars, Selwood was a star in his 1st game.

You make it sound like McCartney was the senior coach and Thompson was the assistant.

Keep on coming haters I love it.

I think he will again be a good assistant coach and he does have the runs on the board whether other posters chose to believe or not but I don't think I would be quoting the word of Hird as gospel on anything 'dazzle'.

By the way I think Neeld will be a good appointment as an assistant somewhere also, he has been good in this role.

Quote from this article

No wonder James Hird said this of McCartney this year: ''I can't imagine there's a better coach in Australia in the way he develops players and teaches them to play football. I'm surprised someone like that hasn't had a chance at senior level because, in my time in footy, I don't think I've met a better coach.''

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
