Pat on the back for Roosy

I may be stating the obvious, but it just came to mind so here i go.

When Roosy came, he stressed how important it is to not put any pressure on the young players, I don't know how he has done it, but he has! the man is a genius.

Think about when trenners, watts ect came in and all the pressure that was on them, compare to now with your tysons, salems, vineys ect and you rarely hear a word about them in the media, there is 0 hype IMO. Tyson of the back of no pre season and 13 games prior to this season polled 11 votes in the brownlow yet you don't hear a word about this, imagine if this was trengove in his 2nd year. Would the old admin be parading him around like he won the bloody thing?

The lack of pressure coupled with vince, jones cross, lumumba and dawes gives them a great chance to develop properly.

Another tick of approval to what the club is doing, it's little things like this that can go by unnoticed but can make a huge difference.

Nice title, I went into this thread thinking we'd landed Patty Dangerfield.

Imagine how giddy some people will be when we actually win more than 4 games in a season.

There's a real schoolyard bully mentality on Demonland at the moment particularly when newish posters contribute. It's getting really boring.

But seriously, it's a great thread.

Kudo's to Roo's and Co...

Fair comment Timmy. But we need wins on the board before the champagne is even looked at.

4 wins, 17th out of 18, staved off the wooden spoon on percentage, lost the last 10 in a row, completely unacceptable, no other way of describing the season.

Complete failure.

It was disappointing to end the season like we did, but it's pretty short-sighted to deem the year a "complete failure". The first half of the year was frustrating, but an improvement on the previous two years.

So...no kudos to Roos and co?

But seriously perhaps you misread (or didn't bother to read) the op. The big ups was for Roos not putting any pressure on the young players not for the results he achieved in 2014.

This has been the case for as long as I've been a member.

Old Rhino Richards the hero moderator was the worst of them all.

Too many smart [censored]

Garlett will help take pressure off JKH as well. He's a great trainer and earned his spot this year, but looked really deflated after that Collingwood match.

It's nice to have a coach protecting our younguns for a change, rather than throwing them off the deep end.

I will be interested to see Salems second year.

He had an interrupted pre season due to illness and then showed glimpses of real game sense and skill. I remember George Stone saying mid year that he expected Salem to stay in the side until end of season which was slightly in contrast to Roos strategy of easing them in to the ones. It never eventuates and Salem did go back to the Magoo's. Whether it was form or Roos decision from a load POV we'll never know.

We've regained some self respect after the Neeld experience but I am not an unqualified Roos cheerleader . The worst example of his ultra-defensive mindset was in the Round 15 Bulldogs game when we defended a 2 goal lead early in the last quarter by stacking every player into our defensive half . We were rendered incapable of scoring at all.....even from opposition turnovers .

My memory is Salem couldn't get a kick in the second half of the season. Some have commented elsewhere that the Toump was dropped after having games where got 18 or so disposals but Salem was being picked on the back 4 and 8 disposal games. He showed some x factor in some games and I saw him back into a pack and take one for the team so I have faith he can make it but he is no ball magnet.

Salems defensive pressure was miles ahead of Toump's. Roos is teaching the young'uns a lesson. Doesn't matter how often you touch it, it's how hard you work with out it.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
