It certainly was simple alright

I am not writing it just for your benefit..

I find it amazing that so many on here have "forgiven" the club for making such a monumentally bad decision

Not only did Ollie live at the Viney house for a period, Toumpas had 2 bad hips when he was recruited....

The result is....

With that said, Jack Viney said on SEN that the pick of the bunch was Toumpas.

Yeah well here's a thought Outa Left Field!

Maybe he was thinking that in time!

Sheesh, Well its a tough gig to get a game out there!

But what's the outcome here? How does this thread end?

I wish we had of drafted James Hird, Chris Grant, Shane Crawford and made a play for Tony Lockett and Alistair Lynch.

Why didn't we do more to lure Kernahan and Bradley over from SA?

If we had of snared Ablett snr, we could have also got Jr!!

What's there to 'forgive'? Did Viney stuff up pick four on purpose?

Is Toumpas under-performing on purpose?

Good old WYL. We'll win a flag one year and all you be doing is still complaining about the past. Let it go pal.

Keep out of it Stu! SWYL will only give you a touch up!

Win a flag? That's funnier than the Homer gyf thing you did....

If he got Wines we wouldn't have Tyson, Salem, Brayshaw and a whole heap of first year players.

Is Wines good? Absolutely. But.. Let's give these other kids time, stop crying over spilt milk.

I don't even include Toumpas in the equation, I never have, I just see it as - things have panned out for us in other ways.

Look at the bright side. Just like losing Scully, there is a bright side.

Christian Salem will be twice the player Ollie Wines will be, that isn't to downplay Wines either.

If we'd of landed Wines, who knows whether we'd of been in a position to land the messiah (Salem) and Tyson.

Though Toumpas did have a poor game against the Bombers I'm definitely not gonna write him off. The first two NAB cup games he only played a total of 61% game time and still managed to record 34 touches from the two games plus 9 tackles. These are pretty decent numbers and I'm hoping with a full season he can average somewhere around 22-24 touches a game this season.

I don't think he will average numbers like that, if he can average 19-20 it will be a big improvement from Toumpas.

Stop that, King! Move to the other side of the board! This is the Whines Lounge....some respect, please brother! :)

SWYL's recruiting masterclass

- always establish whether prospect has 'mates' at the club

- pay close attention to articles talking about where prospect would 'love' to go

- enquire to prospect's accomodation

- prospect's star sign

Here's another Conspiracy theory for ya.

Best Mates BEST MATES!!

Well if my best mate was available I would want him playing alongside with me "Come Whatever May"

And Viney suggested that Toumpas was the man to pick??

Come on give me a break?!

Something has definitely gone down here and the Red Herring is alive and well!

I've always espoused the theory that TV didn't want OW to outshine JV.

Don't force me to name names....please.

The Humble Pie is still baking Picket and Mates. Don't know why sane people are trying to reason with this peanut and his mates. Playing into their keyboard warrior Hans.

Hahahaha... That's really funny Stuie

When we win the flag i will be off work for at least a month..

You are as sharp as Stuie...Do you have 2 accounts Curry?

Just asking?

What did i say that was actually wrong?

Ollie did live at the Viney house for a time....Yes

Jimmy had bad hips when we recruited him as an "Outside Mid"....Yes

Ollie keeps ripping it up every week.....Yes

Jimmy....well there's always next week, he'll come good

I have seen Whorethorn win 11 of their 12 flags...In 1988 i got locked in a room with 3 Hawk Fanatics to watch the GF...1 of them still hammers me whenever i see him

26 years later...

Getting tired of it and getting tired of seeing overpaid kids not prepared to learn and do a job...What has transpired over at Port Adelaide should also be happening at the MFC, there is no excuse.

Funny you mention this.. mentioned here before i spoke to Wines sister at a sports function up my way. She is a journalist. I asked her the question about weather Melbourne really did have a strong interest. She said that it was actually Mark Neeld who was the most keen. While the club showed interest in Oliver it already told them that If Toumpas was available they would select him over his brother. They believe he had more upside and the fact he already played against men was a big factor. Hawthorn and St kilda were the two clubs that had made alot of trips up to Echuca to interview him.

Mark Neeld was a big fan of Wines and kept in close contact with him before the draft. At the end of the day he left it up to Todd for the final call.

Nah, there's enough knives in poor old Jimmy's back. I'll just ask him to drop a few off on his way to his overpaid job where he goes to not learn, with the hips he deliberately had operated, on just so he could disappoint a few MFC keyboard warriors. If he's not using them, I'm sure he won't mind lending them to Picket and Mates so they can use to eat their own.

Keyboard Warrior hey....

What's your time frame Sam?

How long are you going to hope before you expect a return...?

As long as he's one of ours, he gets my unwavering support. That's what loving your Club is about SWYL. Unlike you and your pathetic Mate, I am Red & Blue all the time, not just when it suits. Grow up and stop behaving so petulantly. Your infantile rants are as boring as your mate Picket's.

That doesn't answer my question.

But it was what i expected

Unwavering support

Marvellous for you Sam

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
