Id rather use these picks on talented kid who will be 10 year players. I wouldn't even use it on Dangerfield who is 25 years old already probably get 5 years out of him.

How did Port go against us on their home ground this year when we were bereft of forward targets to kick goals?

I still reckon we have the potential to improve dramatically with a vastly different forward set up which will allow Roos to change the way our attacking set up operates.

How many big bodied mids do Port have? I agree we need one more but we more so need hard running class on the outside so I would be looking for the one that has the best balance of both. This is more the Port model. That is why as you stated Shiel should be the main target, even if this means pick 2.

I would agree that the draft would be the way to go IF we were back in 2008.
The club did need an injection of youth that would eventually supersede the older hands. However, that premature changing of the guard was basically complete two years into the project. It should have stretched out to 4 years when the younger blokes we had ticked over the 50 game mark.
We have shot ourselves in the foot unfortunately and while it is cliche, we are paying for the sins of the past. We need a decent senior core right now and aim to get to at least mid table. If that doesn't happen, we will remain in a vicious cycle: young kids get put in straight away, get mauled, get confidence shot and become poor role models for the next bunch of hapless kids entering our system.
JKH, Salem and Hogan to an extent will be all the better for the exposure to AFL that they have had thus far. Hopefully those two will be able to clock up 18 to 20 games next year and none as subs.
I hate to say it but I reckon if Jack Viney was snubbed by the club and went to Port instead of Wines, we would be talking about him in the same way that we talk about Wines. Why? Because Wines has Travis Boak, Hamish Hartlett and Kane Cornes to protect him and ensure that he isn't lasered in on.
We are starting to get some midfield quality together BUT they are one year in and are quite makeshift.

I agree Cbf - we are actually in "pre-rebuild" now we have to replace the older heads who aren't there who can provide the leadership for the kids we will draft in the next 2-3 years. The appalling nature of our recruitment/list management dictates it.

It's been well documented that Roos had to change his outlook and approach to the season once Clark and Hogan both went down. When he signed on our 3 key forwards were all available and shaping up to be ready for Round 1... and all 3 didn't play.

I'm not saying it will make ALL the difference, but our style of play will evolve and allow us to play more attacking football in the future.

The change will also come with more fresh faces who have had no 'taint' from the previous years, and they can come in ready to learn and improve under Roos without worrying about the past. It can be done, it might just take us longer than most.

Just to clarify I'm not a Toumpas basher but to say Wines was rubbish in the first half is simply untrue. I was there Port were disgraceful and Wines and Hartlett were the only two who stood up. Things weren't going his way but he continued to bash and crash at every contest he ran hard and did all he could to keep his side in the game. He is a quality kid and love the way he plays his footy

Just to clarify I'm not a Toumpas basher but to say Wines was rubbish in the first half is simply untrue. I was there Port were disgraceful and Wines and Hartlett were the only two who stood up. I am not saying Wines was not going hard but he kicked at less than 50% and his two immediate opponents were the highest possession getters for the opposition and from my view joint BOG at that time. If you're not stopping your man and when you do get the ball your handing it back then it doesn't say much. This is no slant on his effort or his second half which was excellent but moreso those on here who look at everything he does with rose coloured glasses.
