Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]

Can't even describe in words how deflated I feel about this. After 3 months of Roos talking about "drastic" changes and a total "list overhaul" to eradicate what he described as a scarred group mindset... and we've traded out one player. At their behest. And he was our best forward.

In no universe is this a good result for us if we laughably want to appear as an "attractive" option next year for free agents, if that is indeed the master plan that Mahoney mentioned. We are screaming out for midfield depth and we haven't been able to trade in a single midfielder.

Talk about promising draftees all you like, but they won't be AFL level midfielders until long after Roos walks out the door.

This draft was being billed as a quality talls draft this time last year, but none took a step up and a few took steps back. So much so that Lever who was out the entire year with a knee reco, is still considered to be one of the best talls available.

One of the best players available, I would be happy to pick him up.

Didnt josh say we would look at delisted free agents

Well this 10 days have been a complete waste of time, really just needed 1 day to get 2 deals done and Roosy could have had a much longer holiday.

So we will most likely walk away at 2pm tomorrow with

Premiership hard running HBF

goal kicking small forward

key Back

Picks 2,3, 23 and Stretch plus Jetta upgrade

And we lose

Frawley, Clark, Byrnes, Nicholson, Clisby and most likely Blease, Strauss and Tapscott

8 changes to our senior list.

Frost v Frawley, I'm backing a win - as Frawley moped around this year.

Garlett v Byrnes, win

Hogan v Clark, win - lets not forget Hulk.

Harry O v Nicholson, win

Pick 2 - Brayshaw, win

Pick 3 - Lever/McCartin - long term win, short term ?

We are straightened out a fair bit IMO.

Yep.

We always go in with some optimism... Give it until quarter time in round 1.

then it all evaporates.....

When you look at it like that, we haven't lost much at all. Frawley was average at best for most of the year and how much did we get out of the other 7 in the past 2 years.

One thing we have added with Lumumba, Gartlett and Stretch is speed.

Hopefully we can get two stars with 2 & 3 and something special with 23 and we've done OK.

Some of us take comfort that we were ahead in the fourth quarter 9 times in 2014 and look like we will be coming out of this trade/draft season better than did our cellar-dwelling competitors. Others see that as proof we will never win more than 2 games or recruit any superstar.

To each his own.

Knowing our luck Petracca will go to saints and we will get The big B and it will be Petracca who is the standout of the two and we will have to wait for our boy to "develop".

It's the Melb way!

IF we are able to announce that Jones has signed a long-term contract with us, all the disappointment that has been trade fortnight will go straight out the door.

Curious as to who you think we did better than? Doggies, if they don't get Boyd, have lost a lot of senior players, but have a lot of good young talent. Edit: Just got Boyd

Saints, have also lost a few, but they seem to beat us.

GWS are so far ahead of us at the moment it's not funny. Edit: Just got Griffen and 6, have picks 4, 6 and 7

Brisbane have aced the trade period.

While I'm hoping we improve markedly next year, I can see why many are underwhelmed

Tom Boyd officially a Dog!

Good on the doggies Boyd will be a 10 year player full forward for them.

Usually on your page mate but I can't understand this level of pessimism. It isn't nearly as bad as this picture.

I'll take the draftees developing together at the same time and actually having a decent tilt at a flag in a few years rather than a quick fix which would see us reach the lofty heights of mid table.

The players don't remain dormant, so nor does the team. They get another year's development into them. And they are top end talents.

The club obviously had a crack. I don't doubt for a second that they seriously explored the Beams, Dangerfield and Kennedy options, and probably others that didn't get leaked. So they didn't eventuate - they rarely do, these big name players are normally very hard to move, and it's not just the MFC.

I really wanted a big name trade - as others have said, we need to improve and fast. We don't want to wait for kids to take us there. A Tyson trade would have been nice, but who honestly doesn't believe we were KOTD with that one? We got lucky, it's hard to expect that to happen every year.

Going in to the draft with our first three picks is disappointing, but only a little bit for mine. We've still got every chance to significantly improve our list if we get the picks right. We now back in our recruiting staff.

"As a club we are proud to represent Western Sydney and Canberra. Clearly Tom doesn’t and the best course of action is for him to leave the club," Dave Matthews on trade.

Take that!

Does this set a precedent for Giants kids who are thinking of forcing way out? What next year for Cameron, Shiel, Coniglio, Smith, Treloar.

We have to cross everything that pick 2 & 3 turn out to be great footballers.

God knows we need this to work out.

Pick 2 for 6 & 7? Saints take McCartin, GWS get Pertacca, we get Brayshaw and good players at 6 & 7?

That gives GWS picks 4, 6 & 7.

With Boyd gone, and if they try to trade to get pick 1, that muddies the water on if they would take Petracca, given the only decent tall forward they now have is Cameron.

Does this bode well for us in getting Petracca at pick 2?
