Right whats the go with this bloke..? We paid him to be a key forward who could kick goals. Yes good leader chases and all that but he is there for one important reason and thats to kick goals.

he started the year well but has dropped right off the earth. I have never seen someone as huge as him struggle to take a single simple mark. They just bounce off his hands.

On form he deserves to be dropped this week for Pedersen.

I haven't even watched the game yet (not will I by the sounds of it) but yeah, Dawes is VFL material on the last few weeks alone.

I've always seen Dawes as VFL material.

He isn't a footballer.

But he is the type of guy I'd want around a club.

His last 6 weeks have been horrible. cannot take a contested mark, turns the ball over and cannot hit a target. Not getting a game on form

He has been extremely poor for several weeks now.

The argument (as stated by titan and others) that it is near impossible being a forward in this team has validity. Our forward entries are awful and balls continually going over your head or bounced near your toes makes it difficult to get any momentum going.

But his field skills have been terrible. He can't take a mark and he cant hit a teammate. His leading patterns also seem a bit all over the shop but maybe that's just a by-product of the crappy service he gets.

Who can tell at this point. Jones and Tyson are playing well. T Mac and Jetta are passable. The rest..

His disposal has been bad, which I don't expect from him, but to say "We paid him to be a key forward who could kick goals" is too simplistic. He's never been a big goal kicker, he's always been a lead up link up forward, which combined with Clark and Hogan was going to be a perfect mix, yet he's now copping it for not being the type of player he has never been.

So taking that, along with our horrible horrible disposal in and around 50 into consideration, I think you're aiming at the wrong target. Yep, he's been out of form, but he's not our main problem.

He caught the MFC disease. Join MFC and within days, weeks, months, lose all confidence in your ability, shortly followed by just losing all ability outright.

a link up forward requires the ability to Mark

Which is why I said he's been out of form, did you read that part? Also, watch the game again and watch how many times he lead well only to have the ball delivered behind him, over him, too late, or out of bounds.

averages 1 mark per Q, thats not out of form, thats no ability to mark

...in the worst inside 50 team in the comp, with the worst skills and delivery in the comp, as the only marking option at HF.

It's not as simple as you want to make out.

Jury's out I feel.

Delivery and support are either non-existent or atrocious, so it's hard to judge his real worth or capability.

Excuses.

There have been plenty of time the ball has been lace out to him and he still manages to fumble and spill simple marks.

Does anyone actually read the posts before replying anymore?

As I have said already, a few times, clearly he's out of form. Those other factors don't help though. But you're OP is a far too simple minded look at what is happening.

Dawes is a C Grader, plain and simple.

You said that already in this thread. Are people not only not reading before replying, but now not even reading their own posts?

frawely is in the same side & averages 2 per Q (he is out of form) Dawes needs to get to that level to be link up forward

Yep, he struggles being the main forward, and when adding sht delivery into the mix it makes his job very tough. Can't see it changing quickly next year. It will take Hogan a while to settle in, regardless of talent. Is Pedo part of the answer? Gawn? Do we go for another tall forward in the draft? Maybe trade for someone like Cameron? On the other hand, if we don't have the midfield cattle to add to Jones and Tyson then the forwards won't get near it. There are just so many 'needs' on the team sheet it's difficult to know where to start.

Is anybody else hoping that there's the smiggest of chances Mitch Clark decides to come back. I know he has to get his health right, but damn that would give me so much hope going into next season

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best.
